Real hard part is that LDs are not perfectly flat, they come up a little in the center.
So even if you have weight it will never be flat and that's why those adjustments are there to compensate for the irregularities in the disc.

Here's my take5 decode. SNR 35db and trailing. This is using --NTSC_color_notch_filter, at 28.6msps, and 10.7+ LPF.

You can see i don't have the crosstalk issue. I wonder if the damage and then repair of that player whacked the alignment?

Here are some more detailed illustrations on how to wire the batteries to the OPA657 board.

Use the battery holders with a switch on them.

I doubt it's the player, as you tested it yourself without issues after you repaired it. I can't reproduce it on my other discs. I'm trying to get my hands on more discs from a friend to borrow. Might be able to do that soon.
