Spotted this in a youtube comment section. This isn't something I would normally do, but I just had to share this because you gotta read it to believe it sometimes; Quote: True. This reminds me of people who say Laser Disk had 440 lines. Not true. Most laser disks (the affordable ones) were no more than 250. A Laser Disk could get 440 lines with the 5.1 AC3 format. One proplem. To achieve 440 lines the disk was limited to 30 per side. Like a film reel. Yes they were machines that could switch sides but these were top of the line models that were VERY EXPENSIVE.
2 hour movie - 2 disks over 4 sides.
3 hour movie - 3 disks over 6 sides.
4 hour or close to four hour movies i.e. Gone With The Wind, Lawerence Of Arabia, Ten Commandments. - 4 disks over 8 disks.
These special edition Laser Disks were $80 - $150. And that was back in the day (1986) when the minimum wage in Ontario was $3.15 an hour. And you could only seen the 440 lines if you had one those very large, heavy and ridiculous rear projection televisions. Assuming they had the S connection.
A 440 line Laser Disk would look better on the 250 line CRT monitor but you wouldn't get the 440 lines. Point out all the things in this comment that are incorrect!

Going with the topic of this thread: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144623693980Quote: If you're looking at this auction then I'm sure you know what this. This thing is a tank. Flagship of Panasonic. I know these perfectly working are going for $400+ all day long so starting low...
Is it working? For the most part. The Play button doesn't seem to be working so I can't play a disc.
The tray opens and closes fine on its own. When you insert a laserdisc it will close on it's own but sometimes you need to help it out a little bit when you open again.
Some small scratches on it, see pics.
So.... Selling as not working. Get it going or use it for parts, whatever you need to do. No remote. Comes with power cord. No returns.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/195109367421?V ... 5109367421This was one of my favorite recent little mini-sagas on eBay. The guy started off trying to get around 4k for it. He was just sure it was worth that much. Ultimately gave up after I think a few months...for now at least... To be clear this is a bootleg. It was sold off by someone that has the code for the game as a "limited edition" and I believe the proceeds went to charity but I'm not 100% on that.

Old CRT TVs from the 70s could very well have been only ~250 TVL. I was alive then, and can remember watching TV in the 70s, and the image was about the same as VHS, quite soft IIRC. Just because 330 TVL was the broadcast standard, doesn't mean every TV had to achieve it. The spec for USA FM radio is 15khz at the top, and there are plenty of radios sold that reproduce less than that (single speaker portables for instance can achieve about 8khz). The "specs" for such things are the minimum for broadcast, not the minimum for receiving. By the 90s, yeah, my TV had 800 TVL, but 20 years earlier... not so much. Also, PAL laserdisc is 440 tvl, might be what they were referring to. https://mistervideo.net/comparison-laserdiscs-formats/ first paragraph https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaserDisc first paragraph under "comparison with other formats"
