I have only seen 2 movies from him (Contact and Maximum Risk). I enjoyed these 2 flicks. LD seems to be a great format to get some good old HK movies of decent quality in general. I am just unsure if some of the less-known movies have English subtitles or not. I need to do some further research.

Starship Troopers (1997) [71716]Found another copy at the local record store, thought id roll the dice and take my chances. My other copy the picture is fine but the rot has started to affect the AC-3RF track and caused drop outs. This one im hoping is a good, but realisticly it could be even worse

Starship Troopers is one of the movies I want to add to my collection but the high rot probability is not very encouraging. So I am curious how lucky you are going to be with your second purchase of the movie.

I will keep that in mind and try to sealed dics only of the movies that have high risk of disc rote. Makes sense that you can delay the process when getting discs that have been exposed to external influences that much.

The reason for rot is debonding of the glue that is holding the two discs together. This effect cannot be stopped by some plastic foil (foil is far from airtight when thinking long term).
Of course a used disc might have some mechanical wear, but there is literally no difference in rot probability. This is only related to the production process and the glue used by the specific company. PDO UK seems to be a good example for a company that tried to save a buck for example.
I got a few sealed discs that were horrible rotters out of the box.
If the disc is open and rotten it is on the seller! If you bought and opened a sealed LD it is on you!
By the way: I never encountered a disc were you were not able to see the rot. It is very obvious when looking at the pictures of the discs. So always check the pics or ask the seller for some detailed pictures of all sides. If other members encountered „invisible rot“ please feel free to correct me.
Cheers, Markus PDO UK rot was visible soon after being pressed. Rot can most certainly be invisible however.

Thanks for the correction and the excurse in disc rot @myth and zeta. I could not have been more wrong with my thinking that sealed discs have a higher chance of survival. But have to admit that I had no clue how disc rot works so agreed with the false info another user said. So take a careful look at the discs before purchasing and ask the seller to show some footage of the disc in action before selling the only way to minimise the chance of getting a bad disc? Avoiding the purchase of known rotters would be the best way of protection . Unfortunately I would be interested in getting some movies that are known rotters..
