That’s a bummer. It was a genuinely relevant LD too. Hopefully it wasn’t lost but rather stolen, so that it might turn up again some day.

That's a real shame. Fortunately, we have top men working on it as we speak.

Top. Men.

I have bought a few sealed titles known as rotters, lucky for me they didn't have any prblems and played perfect.
My idea was if the disc still sealed in jacket it has not been exposed to the harsh elements yet, it will probably rot in the future with years of use.

Don't know why this keeps coming up, but disc rot doesn't have anything to do with use. All optical media has a shelf life, and keeping it sealed doesn't prolong the shelf life. If it's sealed, all it means is that you're buying something that nobody has confirmed is in good condition.

You’re just confusing things further. It’s not about shelf life (which is HUGELY variable if all “optical media” are concerned). With LD “rot” mainly concerned manufacturing defects. Two discs made on the same day might have very different lifespans due to where they were pressed and when.

There are 70s discs that still play. There are 90s discs that rotted away 20 years ago. There is no relationship between time and rot other than to say that entropy eventually comes for everything.

This is splitting hairs. I never implied that the shelf life of a disc isn't hugely variable. Every optical disc is going to become unusable eventually in the same or similar fashion to a "rotted" laserdisc, just much faster if it was made poorly. The term "laser rot" makes people think there's something weird or special about laserdiscs and rot, when fundamentally there isn't. There are just s****y discs that die fast and good discs that last for a number of decades that haven't passed yet. My point was that whether or not a disc's packaging has ever been opened has nothing to do with it. We're saying the same damn thing framed slightly differently.

I guess my issue with the way you framed it…as if every example of optical media is wasting away before us. A properly made optical disc will outlive a human*. They aren’t melting away before our eyes.

* it has to be a human that doesn’t scratch the F out of their discs, leave them in the sun, and blame “rot”.

My copy of Men In Black (DADC USA pressing) is almost perfect. And my copy of Starship Troopers (US) is perfectly watchable. It has mild rot
at times but the worst rot is on the side containing all the bonus features. My DADC US pressing of Gang Related (1997 release) is perfect and
has zero rot.
The only DADC USA pressing in my collection that's really bad is Eraser but even that is watchable to a certain extent. At least
it plays through and the audio is there most of the time.

In fact I have two copies of Starship Troopers. Both are perfectly watchable and have mild rot.

Purchased a U.S. domestic "SCREAMERS" from TANJUN.

Only had various Japanese Imports historically.
As I am a PKD fan, am looking forward to reviewing this title.
If anyone is interested, Screamers was based on the short story "SECOND VARIETY" by PKD.
Check it ....

Cheers to the membership.

A favorite of mine as well.

My VHS copy of it is still stuck in one of those CRT-VCR combo units, when that TV finally gave up the ghost. :P

I recently got the LD of Queen: Live in Rio, and plan to watch it soon. Freddie Mercury was taken from this Earth far too soon.
