After sitting and watching They Live, Inxs Videos, Dawn of the Dead and a bunch of Tom and Jerry Cartoons, I would have to say that the Bravia projector and the CLD704 make a great paring. I dont have the greatest sound yet as it is still going through my television thanks to my dvd recorder, I do have the picture at about 90 inches end to end. The picture is beautiful and everything is great! Now all I need to do is get a better sound system. It really is like being in a theater, lol.

Good day mikeystoyz,

Thank you for sharing your experiences of your system with the site, as I could picture your joy when watching your movies on your projection screen.

Don't worry I am sure in time, you will achieve the right surround sound system for your room.

All in good time and the main thing is that you enjoy your progress at each step of the way.

I wish I had a projector. . . . . . . .A long way from this thou:(

You enjoy

Regards

my problem with getting a projector was that there are no places to demo them.
so you really have to just get them on specs.

1 think is do a lot of research, even if buying a used one.
know how much light your TV is throwing and then figure that out with the lumens.
i don't remember all of the info but the TV gives so much light and my projector is 900 lumen.
but at real theatres they are only about 300-400, or that's what i was told when i was getting my screen.

they guy said if you get too bright of a projector then you will get eye fatigue if the room is too dark.
or something like that, it was about 7 years ago when i was getting all of the projector stuff.
now i can watch the classic Last Dinosaur, The (Kyokutei tankensen Pora-Bora) (1977) [88C59-6156] which will never be release at imax.

I got lucky and was at an auction. Managed to snag a Sony Bravia without the remote for 125 dollars.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VPL-AW15-BRA ... 262&sr=8-1

Lamp is pretty good and all the connectors work. Was my personal score of the century. I am looking for speakers I can just hook up without a amp but am having no luck, lol.

i think you're alwasy going to have an amp in there somewhere.
what if you get a small bookshelf setup with an input for the player?

it's not going to be great but it should work.

you could just get cheap wire that is super long for outside, pull the speakers out and enjoy.
it won't be a top quality but better than a boom box

I've seen some demoed in the "Magnolia Home Theater" section of Best Buy. Fry's electronics also had a home theater room with a projector. Other than that the only other option is to research a site like Consumer Reports or CNET for their reviews of projectors.

I use a projector system and it's great. Nothing like watching movies on a 150" screen! The only thing with projectors is that if your going to go that way, don't go cheap. It's better to get at least a mid-range model or high end model as there is a significant improvement in quality. Also, since LD is standard def you want to make sure your using a good upscaler. If you go with something cheap, the picture will be full of artifacts! This is the reason why so many people prefer CRT's to watch their LD's. However, a GOOD projector paired with a GOOD scaler is truly "cinematic."

A good place for projector reviews is: http://www.projectorreviews.com.
They have very indepth reviews and comparisons of a large number of projectors. Frankly, they do a much better comparison than you could ever do in a store.

I worked at a movie theater for a couple years, and while I was there I became friends with a coworker who also ran the laserdisc section at one of the last stores in my city that still sells laserdiscs. One night while working together and talking about our love of LDs and obscure movies, we decided we needed to hook up LD players to the video and audio mixers and project on the theater's screen. A couple weeks later we invited friends to stop by the theater after hours and called it Midnight Laser Force. We each brought some of our favorite discs and I did a live mix of laserdisc demos and music videos, then he played clips of some of the rare and bizarre titles that had come through his store. It was a lot of fun and we hope to do it again.

File comment: I couldn't have made the flyer without this site. Each of the words: Midnight, Laser and Force, were taken from covers on the database. Props to Julien and everyone who contributes.

@invenio....another martin logan owner....I am also a proud martin logan electrostat speakers owner. My setup consists of CLS II full range electrostats(5 feet tall 2.5 feet wide elements), Stage center, motion 4 (x4) rear and backs and descent i(x2) subwoofers. I am currently getting my CLS II frames rebuilt to match my new salamander designs cabinet. I already miss them. No sub 20k speaker come close to imaging and warm mids of ML speakers. I often run them 2 ch and my friends cant tell if the center ch is ON or OFF. I need to find a high current power amp(stereo or 2 monos) for a decent price to power these babies properly. Yamaha A3000 doesnt cut it.

First, let me say the CLS II's are some of the most beautiful speakers ML has ever released (IMHO). I saw a pair on ebay recently and was actually considering to buy it,... however, I don't have the room for an extra set of speakers. Electrostats benefit from a lot of power. I read that this is especially true for older models of ML's. I think the CLS II was released in '89 so this may hold true. In terms of amps I really love Conrad Johnson, but they're more powerful amps are going to cost a pretty penny. If your looking for some inexpensive but high power amps you may want to look at what Emotiva offers. http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers These are solid state amps and not tube, but they put out a lot of power. I've seen these amps used more in home theater applications than 2 channel setups but they may work well for you as CLS's probably benefit from significant power output.

Let us know what you decide on and how it sounds! :)

Hey invenio,

Thank you for sharing with the forum the details below for projector reviews;
A good place for projector reviews is: http://www.projectorreviews.com.

I have just looked and they check everything, very very thorough indeed.

I am especially interested in purchasing the Panasonic PT-AE7000 US version of the PTAE5000 UK Projector, and the reviews that I have read elsewhere are consistent, and has all the right inputs for all of my needs.

Will just need to get a good scaler for the Laserdisc side of things thou.

Thank you again.

Regards

I tell you a good scaler is a dvd copier ;) that is what I use and it works wonders. Stand alone, pretty cheap.
