Tokyo Raiders (2000) [PILF-2870] currently pending at $5,499 has to be a record, right?

It is, the #2 is a distant competitor: Sixth Day, The (2000) [PILF-2867]

That is really crazy.

Seeing that it is claimed to be the last title ever pressed, wonder how many were actually made?

I hope the seller or buyer will submit the mint marks.

Really crazy considering you can get a DVD for under 8 bucks with free shipping and Bluray for under 20 bucks with free shipping.

I understand why someone would want a supposed last release of a format but c'mon people fifty five hundred dollars.
Its not like you can't see this and its super rare, you are just paying for what exactly????

I've even seen super rare LDs on ebay that have never been released on VHS or DVD sell for under 10 bucks, so its obviously not the content here.
Bragging rights to brag to whom? I wouldn't get excited, oh wait I would if I had a copy and just sold it for 5K

And I passed on getting a copy of the 6th Day at the local thrift store on DVD for a buck, why would I want to own this on LD
let alone any format, unless it was to sell it off

 No one will ever buy it. I love the ridiculous prices on some lds. People asking 500-1,000 dollars or more will not get what they want. Just because something is rare doesn't mean people will spend crazy amounts of money on it. Even though some weirdos out there have bought The Matrix ld in recent times for around 400-500 range. Nice that people will overpay for laserdiscs when they could have bought a good solid backup laserdisc player for the same price or less.

The movie sucks. And while it may have been the last retail release of a feature film on LD it wasn’t even close to the last LD ever produced.

Verdict: Kanye probably bought it.

Even he's not that stupid.
Probably some fool living in a small country who is filthy rich and owns a factory, with no friends and only enemies who price gouge him all the time..........

I went down the rabbit hole on this one:

Last release that I have seen proof of is a LD Single from 2007. Based on mint marks and digging through archived Kuraray reports, it looks like they made the stamper but replication might have occurred elsewhere. Kuraray stopped 12" manufacturing before March 31st, 2001 and all optical disc manufacturing in 2003 (http://web.archive.org/web/20080613050201/http://www.kuraray.co.jp/en/business/methacrylate.html). They still made stampers.

The last 12" we have proof of is Dragon's Lair (1983) [---]. In the notes, you will see that a Disney disc has a higher mint mark, but if you read https://web.archive.org/web/20020328065838/http://www.hi-techmechanical.com/ it appears that Dragon's Lair was ordered before it for the check discs, but likely fully replicated after the Disney disc.

Pioneer didn't go scorched-earth until March 2003 when it ceased all optical disc production, so there very well could be some 2003 12" floating around but I would want to see photos and mint marks.

Yup, why anyone would pay that amount of money for it is beyond me.

Didn’t the Swiss guy ask $8,000 for a title back in the day? He had a few in the $5,000-$8,000 range.
