Hello!

I've seen industrial/pre-production copies before but this one is a little different: it comes with 2 cartridges.

Tentatively added as 野球拳 Part 15, The [A1657M].

Maybe it's from one of their arcade Laserdisc games?

Like Time Traveler?

Worth a look here, this is the guy who has a complete Galaxian³ machine in his home by the way.

Those were run on PCB boards not cartridges, so this could have been for the home LD system to run with the sega pac?
Thats my only guess, but unless Sega made a proto for a motherboard that would go inside your cab to convert it and run games like a neo geo with
LDs its almost 100% unlikely that this would have been for arcade use.

Those would have had the boards with cables running from the LD player to the monitor etc not like this.
Still cool and could be a prototype but not for arcade unless they scrapped an idea that never took off.

What was Sega’s LD arcade PCB? Do we know for sure it doesn’t take carts, not even the prototype version?

Could be MSX but it’s proto regardless.

EDIT: where does it say “Sega”?

Oh good call.

I've seen the motherboards and none of them take cartridges, I even tried to get a few to convert cabs as at the time
I had a bunch that were empty and could pickup those industrial LD players for super cheap, but the LDs were the expensive part
and it just wasn't worth the money when I could make more with an A/B capcom board dropping into a Jamma harness.

I think this might be the answer. It looks like a prototype Sega game which was also released on the 3DO. The cartridges look similar to the Saturn arcade cartridges, but prototypes. I am guessing the Laserdisc possibly contains the FMV footage?

Here's a longplay, note it's sort of NSFW (an understatement).

Oh it's a “じゃんけんぽん” (Jankenpon) strip game?
Of course, Japan had to invent something like that.

Is the player supposed to remove layers at hone when losing a round?
