Thing was made to last. My brother dropped it down the steps. Cracked the outer case, but it still worked.

My first CRT was a Magnavox TV/VCR.

I even had a Sony DVD player and I watched Wow Wow Wubbzy and Nick Jr shows on DVD. Memories.

Now I have a Insignia LCD TV and a Insignia DVD player and some two Ben 10 DVDs and 1 Blue's Clues DVD to relive my memories.

my folks had three CRT monitors throughout my childhood that they let me use for video games, movies and Broadcast/CATV virtually at my whim.

first was their 20in. or so early-80's MONTGOMERY WARD unit that was eventually handed down to me
for my own room's use in the early-90's or so, pretty much a larger version of this one here.
saw A LOT of Nintendo NES-ing run through it in the 90's.

indeed, it even saw LOADS of SEGA GENESIS, SONY PS1, Nintendo N-64 and SNES action when it was further handed down to my sister around 2000 or so.
in point of fact, this damned MONKEY WARDS was a DIE-HARD, that lasted clear through the mid/late-2000s for my sister;

Image

second was my mom's 1987-ish HITACHI 22in. that i played my Nintendo SNES on for the first time in 1991, in addition to many, many hours of movies and NES play;

Image

finally was my folks living room 1987 RCA "DIMENSIA" 27in. that i played my first SEGA GENESIS sessions upon,
in addition to most every successive console i had owned since, right on up through the SONY PS1.

my folks bought all three brand new, and got the HITACHI and RCA models
along with matching VCRs (our first LINEAR STEREO and S-VHS/Hi-Fi STEREO models) with the HITACHI setup in 1987, and the RCA around 1988/1989-ish;

my final CRT monitor... -and the first one that belonged to me right from the outset- was a TOSHIBA 32in.
that i got around 1999, and lasted me right through my early-SONY PS3 era, when i finally replaced it with my first LCD HDTV around 2011;

Hah you just reminded me of a situation I had when my Stepgrandmother moved in with my family in the 90s.

She had a Montgomery Ward branded console TV--a late 80s model, but the remote stopped working. I decided to call Montgomery Ward customer service to see if we could buy a replacement remote (Stepgrandma didn't want to use a universal remote.) I finally get through to a person, and they say they can get us a new remote, but then we have this exchange...

Operator: What brand is the TV?
Me: Montgomery Ward
Operator: No, I mean what company made the TV?
Me: Montgomery Ward
Operator: No, you see, I understand you got the TV from Montgomery Ward, but I need to know the make of the TV. Like Sony or Sylvania.
Me: It says Montgomery Ward on the TV. It doesn't say any other brand.
Operator: It has to have a brand on it. Montgomery Ward doesn't make TVs.
Me: I'm telling you it doesn't have any other brand on it. It only say Montgomery Ward.
Operator: Are you sure?
Me (starting to get pissed off): If I could send you a picture and show you that it doesn't have any other brand on it but Montgomery Ward, I would. It's a Montgomery Ward TV.
Operator: :sounding rather patronizing: well, I learned something today. That Montgomery Ward makes TVs!
Me: Yes they do. They definitely made this one at least.
Operator: :groans: well, do you have the model number?
Me: model number XXXXXXXX
Operator: :types away: Huh . . . this is a Montgomery Ward TV.
Me: Yes it is. Just as I said.

Kind hard to believe that someone in customer service for a Department Store doesn't know that the company OEM's electronics and slaps their name on them.

We did eventually get to order a replacement remote, but the TV completely died about a year and a half later.

We had an old Zenith. It actually fell on my head and then to the floor at one point. Explains a lot :lol:

I do still use some CRTs.

Sony XBR960 (had been using an 800 until it encountered the dreaded power switch issue), 14'' Sony PVM w/ RGB/COMP (don't remember the exact model and it's not easy to see the back right now) and LaCie Electron blue IV are the three that are out and see regular use.

I have a few tvs that I'm not replacing until they die. I don't use them for anything where av quality really matters. I think one is a Dynex I got for free.

This is the model I used for Picture Ratio FAQ :-)
