I watched this movie many times while young, it must have been on HBO or something. I read that it was actually not successful in theatres, which makes me wonder if it was ever released on laser.

I read an excellent article about the movie a few years ago. I have the soundtrack on vinyl and am going to buy the movie on dvd if I can't find it on laserdisc.

Here is the article if anyone is interested, it's very in-depth.

Besides VHS and Beta releases in the early days, DVD is its only release on disc, but what a disc it is - it looks fantastic and has a superb commentary. As a young teen in the early 80's I LOVED the movie and still do. Get the DVD, you won't be disappointed. It captures a time and look perfectly - and is one of the rare films to take the kids side of things. And what a debut for Matt Dillon!

Thank you, disclord. It is a great one and I'll pick up a dvd copy soon. Hopefully I'll enjoy rewatching it. Sometimes things are better in memory though!

Not Over The Edge... It's as good, if not better than I remember as a kid because I can see and understand some of the adult problems now... Except for Dobermans... And the soundtrack is all original.. There are no music replacements on the DVD. I think that's what held it up for so long. It's a great disc and brilliant film that is so realistic in how the kids talk and interact. IMO, No other film has ever matched it for sheer realism.
