After further research the id is mmor5023 i was just curious as it looks like this buyer bids on most every laserdisc the seller has.

Upaithric did the LD news letter back in the day.
he had a great site with reviews of LDs and DVDs, it's still up dvdlaser.com
but for some reason the search is out and won't give you anything :(

I have only bought once from Upaithric, not having pics, but was happy with what I got. There will always be competition with buying/bidding laserdiscs, as has happened to me more then a few times, from another e-bay member, who seems to like similar ones I do. Can be tough if they bid at the last few seconds ending.

But as e-bay says.......it's the highest bidder that wins, so if it's something you want bad enough (and are able to do so budget wise) put in a larger bid. If you don't win it, at least you tried your best.

I will sound off as well !
Upaithric is a stand up dealer.
Stands by his product big time.
Don't know where he digs them up, but he has had nice gems consistantly over the years.
Top notch all the way.
Buy with condifence from him.

Hi Everyone,
Yes, that is exactly the case with this seller. He personally told me that most of the discs he was selling were "review copies" furnished to him by the video companies so that he could review them in his newsletter. His name is Douglas Pratt, and I will second everything good said about him here. He is a genuine class act, and a true movie lover like all of us here. I bought a ton of discs from him several years ago, but I stopped when it became obvious that most of his best stuff was gone. He started re-listing the pieces that didn't sell individually in small groups, which is what I think he is still doing to this day. It simply reached the point when he wasn't listing anything I really wanted or needed anymore. It is a sad time when a great source like him "dries up", but that always happens eventually, even to the very best, of which Douglas is certainly one. He was tremendously helpful to me, and almost single-handedly enabled me to wipe out the last of the tough U.S. titles remaining on my wishlist at the time. Some of the discs I bought from him are real jewels, and I would never part with them. It's absolutely true that there is always competition when bidding on discs from him. I found that to be the case in my experiences with him. Sometimes I had to give more than I really wanted to in order to get what I wanted from him, but it was truly worth it. He stands behind what he sells, and deals in treasures, NOT TRASH. A real gentleman, and certainly worthy of everyone's business!

I agree he is a great seller i keep wondering when his supply will run out. I was just asking about the buyer who bids on almost every disc he has listed i guess he is not a member here.

He was posting as "Douglas Pratt" during the heyday of alt.video.laserdisc on usenet.

it's too bad that his site no longer has the reviews of LDs and DVDs that it used to have.

you could compare DVD to LD and see which is better from his reviews.

It was inevitable that Doug Pratt transitioned from Laserdisc reviews to DVD reviews.
When he reviewed Laserdiscs he would compare printings and talk about differences, improvements, etc.
And he does the same thing with DVD's. And sometimes he does compare the DVD to the Laserdisc.
Excerpt of his review of The Phantom Menace:
Quote:
The 5.1 Channel Dolby Digital Sound, which has EX enhancements, whip's up the films excitements at every turn. The Bass is aggressive, the sound effects are distinctive and plentiful, and the film's sound mix is as creative and pervasive as it's special effects. The sound remains sharper and better powered on the Japanese LD (May 00- the picture on the DVD is just slightly richer; a friend, in fact, feels the sound is better on the DVD, but the picture looks better on the LD, which implies in quality how close the two actually are), but without that benchmark, the audio seems fabulous.

I use to subscribe to his LD newsletter. But when Laserdiscs died I quit subscribing. Too bad Doug could not join here and post now and then. I'm guessing a person that watches 4 to 6 movies every day doesn't have a lot of time on their hands.
