I was at the Princeton Record exchange in NJ and my girlfriend pointed out an Indiana Jones record... but it was no record, it was a LaserDisc! I actually went there a few months ago hoping to get some vinyl, but then noticed the small box of Laserdiscs under one of the CD racks and walked out with a few of those instead! Amadeus: Special Edition and Bran Stoker's Dracula Criterion CAV for less than $5 each!

I have 115 LDs 95% of them I've gotten locally. Ebay is overpriced. Most record stores have them here for $1 a disc.

Oh I forget I picked up Final Approach (1991) a few months ago, brilliant film a little underrated and Dolby film mix just wow with nice archive aerial footage of the SR-71 its mind buster of film a kinder bit like The Twilight Zone.

Time is working against the discs themselves as many will sooner or later succumb to laser rot, be remastered to another source, or lack of working players. I did high quality digital lossless transfers of all my discs and dumped them on Ebay, player and all. Have no intention of ever owning another player or disc. Pretty much have all the titles transfered that I will ever want and enjoy them at a click of a mouse any place I may land in the world. But I must say, it's nice to have some of this rare material, goodbye laserdisc. Elvis then what the heck are you doing here? lol

admin wrote: For a detailed description of the 2006 release: http://savestarwars.com/gout.htmlThank you for that link. It was a great read. I was actually watching my LaserDisc copy of Star Wars and the whole time I was thinking that the image looked smeared. I felt like I was watching a copy that someone had recorded on DV and then threw onto a LaserDisc. Which is the best version of Star Wars on LaserDisc? That sounds like it should be a thread already on the forum... I'll go check.

dgtwoodward wrote: I do not know if it represents that LD is becoming more popular or not...all I can tell you is what I have observed. When I bought my first ever player, a PIONEER CLD-D925 in pristine condition, complete with spotless remote, it cost me £54. That would be about $86 U.S.
To get one in as good a condition now....They do not go for any less than £100 (or $160 U.S.) And that increase is over a period of 18 months. Now I am not claiming to know what it's really all down to, it could just be folks buying their own 'break for spares' machines the way I have - which seems the most likely - but then again it might not. I've experience the same thing. When I bought my first LD-player almost 7 years ago they were very cheap and none showed any interest of buying, except for me. now the low-end players cost double and the same day they are listed they are sold. (sweden) I think its on the rise becouse of the nice picture sleeves, and that the picture quality are the same and not getting worse like vhs are a big reason why its getting more popular. I dont think the possibility of they will get laser rot is a big concern, but however when they start showing rot becouse of the age and not becouse manufacture we will be seeing a lot of lds for sale =)
