Post subject:  Bad Lieutenant - How to identify original pressing

I'm hoping someone can help me here - I'm trying to find a copy of the original Bad Lieutenant laserdisc, before they removed the Schooly D song "Signifying Rapper." I purchased 2 copies with the original UPC code (013023433168) and both discs had the replacement soundtrack with the song removed. Does anyone know if there's another way to identify which version a disc is (without playing it) or is it just the luck of the draw?

Here's the database link for the LD:

Bad Lieutenant (1992) (Uncut) [LD69948]

Mint marks are different. If you luck out on finding a competent seller you can ask them for the marks.
Also seems like the first issue is from 93 and the later is 95.
I'm sure the copyright date on the disc itself will show this, so I would again see if the seller will or can read this stuff to help you.
This may not give you an exact answer but best way to find it.

From the comments on Bad Lieutenant (1992) (Uncut) [LD69948] and Bad Lieutenant (1992) (Uncut) [LD 69948]...

It's possible they started a new batch (different master ID in the mint marks: 54-262  58-573) but were still allowed to clear the old inventory using the new cover/UPC.

rein-o is right, only the mint marks will tell you which version you have in hands.

Okay so this actually makes things more confusing, one of the copies I've got has identical mint marks to the "deleted" version listed in the database (54-262A1-02 / 54-262B1-01), and the second copy has a slightly different side 2 mint mark (54-262A1-02 / 54-262B1-02), and they both have the replacement soundtrack. So I'm not sure where that leaves things. Maybe those mint marks aren't actually from the original release?

The dead giveaway is that the final credits are different ("Signifying Rapper" isn't listed in the version with the revised soundtrack) so it's definitely not an issue of me mishearing things.

If anyone has a copy of this that definitely has the original soundtrack, can you please tell me what mint marks are on the disc?

OK question here: When exactly in the movie is the song we are talking about playing?
When exactly do the credits show, and what would they have to say?
Youtube links to the correct song?
I'd check my disc if I had those answers.

This is a good comparison, has timecodes and both versions of all the scenes:

Also the credits would have this song listing

If mint marks are not correct about the song issue, it was then some type of running change and you are just going to have to luck out and find
that copy.

Since value doesn't seem to be an issue and the one is 30 bucks I would ask each seller about the song or minutes in question if they can check.
Otherwise you will be owning a lot of copies trying to find it.

For 7:54 ~ 8:30 I have the music playing, so I suppose I have the "deleted" version, let me check further...
17:54 ~ 18:44 checks out as well, although the scene starts a bit later on the LD, maybe 10 seconds or so.
25:10 ~ 25:51 checks out as well.
Now it gets a bit trickier as the next scene is @ 1:33:00 ~ 1:36:10, so lets try the math...
First side has a total runtime of 48:30..., end credits start at around 44:30 of side 2.
The song in question is the very first to be listed.

My jacket says: UPC 013023-3381-66 ~ Spine says LD69948
Mint marks: 58-573A2-01 MADE IN USA E8180441 ~ 58-573B1-05 MADE IN USA E8220734
So it seems I do have the "updated" release, but still it has the uncleared soundtrack.
Two other users mention this in the comments of the updated version.
Yeah I would ask the seller of the disc to check. Good luck!
