We all enjoy talking owning & keeping the laserdisc format running. I was just wondering are there similar groups as passionate as we are on laserdiscs for Beta,VHS,or even 8mm collectors?

I collect early VHS and Beta tapes - stuff like the very first Magnetic Video releases when they still made prerecorded Beta tapes available in the X1 (Beta I) speed. That phase of Mag Vids history lasted only about a year or so, and then only as special orders at $20 higher than Beta II releases cost since an extra tape was required. Also the rental stuff from Warner, Fox and MGM is fun to collect, especially MGM and Warner since they took the tapes back from shops when the rental programs were quickly abandoned, so they are much more rare to find. Fotomat and Time had their own tape programs in the late 70's/early 80's and licensed from Paramount and others - you can find movies like Saturday Night Fever and Halloween on the Fotomat and Time Home Video labels. Like MCA DiscoVision, Fotomat had Paramount films available before Paramount even had their own video label - unlike DiscoVision, however, Fotomat tapes were for rental only. Paramount also released some titles on Super VHS and a company called SuperSource licensed titles from Orion and others for Super VHS release too. As far as I know there were no full Super Beta or ED Beta programs released in the US.

I bought myself at the fleamarket a copy of MANDINGO (3 parts) on 8mm. I thought it´sworth something and it looked quite cool. Unfortunately this movie is kinda banned here, so I could´t sell it that easy. I still have it and I wodner soemtimes if I shouldn´t g et an 8mm projector. Alot of movies were released in this format and it seems somehow cool. What I don´t like is the "film-format", it´s not made to last forever..but, hey, we have laserrrot, HD-DVD has also rotting problems, so what? Sure there are other forums where insane people discuss extinct formats.
