Hi All, I'm looking for advice as to the best way of selling a library of LD's. My future mother in law has no need for them any more but none of us know how to go about selling the collection. So any advice as to the best way to go about doing this would be massively welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Ross

You're probably better off selling them piece by piece, or in small groups, rather than as a single lot. Grouping by genre is a good idea ; for example, there are folks like me who are chiefly interested in Japanese animation, others who want music titles, &c. Also, since many titles exist in multiple editions, you would be well advised to obtain details of each one ; at a minimum, the catalog number, so interested parties can look them up on LDDb. Wishlist & sold prices information may also give you an idea of which ones are particularly desirable. Those you can either sell on their own, to realize the best price, or note in groups to have the best chance of moving them. There are people who will buy a whole group to get one specific disc.

I am one of those people. I have bought 50 discs for one, lol. I am working on the greatest collection of Jurassic Park and Aliens.

Thanks Publius, that's great advice! I guess my next natural question is where to sell, or at least where to advertise. eBay is the most obvious place but is there anywhere more specialised?

If you sell them one by one you will make more money. However, you will spend considerable time with packing, shipping, listing, etc. I don't know how many disks you have but I just bought a lot of almost 300 disks. Yes, I got a good deal per disc, but at least the seller didn't have to go through listing 300 discs on ebay. I can't imagine how much time and effort it would take to list so many discs. I think it's a matter of how much money your looking for, how much effort you want to put into listing it, and how badly you want to get rid of all the disks.

Well invenio we're talking about a collection of 200+ discs so what I'm trying to do is see if there are any particularly valuable ones and separating them out from the rest before offering them as a group as previously suggested. I just need to know where the best marketplace is I guess.

If you have the time, look at completed ebay listings for each title to see what they have sold for. That should give you a pretty good idea of what they are worth in the marketplace. As said above, music, opera, animation, and some classic films do have value, but most of the big mainstream movies from the 80's & 90's do not. If all else fails, ask us here.

What you may want to do is put up a listing of all 200+ LD's and then do one of those "pick 5 from the list" for X amount of dollars. this way you don't have to go thru the trouble of listing multiple auctions and you can always just edit the description list to remove the ones that are sold. Just a suggestions.

You are one the more specialised website.
Why not try to open a seller account on LDDB.com and start listing what you have ?
If you're not in a hurry, it could be a very good solution: Look here

Just as I though takou. I did look at opening a seller account but the idea is just to sell everything quick and fast instead of filling in 200+ titles. Speaking of which...

I know this isn't the prettiest way of presenting the info and if anyone would like a spreadsheet then I can email it. I'd also like to know if there's anything I should get really excited about... I was told that "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai" might be worth something as might "From Russia With Love" (both of them) and the Louvre set, the demo disc and most of "The Keep". But am I wrong to think that?

Sorry for being such a novice.

Looking through it quickly there isnt anything super amazing at first glance. There are however a few things from 10 to 20 bucks. Look through the prices here and go from there. It only takes a little while. The box sets are pretty decent. Just list a couple and see what happens. Another thing you can do is list 25 of them for 50 dollars with free shipping. You are getting a buck for the yard trash and you are getting rid of them. Believe me, no one wants another copy of Jurassic Park or Aliens. You cant actually sell that to someone, you have to give it to them so the curse passes to them.

Mostly movies. From what I've seen on Ebay it ain't worth squat. Sorry, probably better selling as an entire collection. Better yet sell them locally on craigslist for one price, total about a buck each. That way the shipping won't be a problem, pick up only. If that don't work give them to the salvation army.
Elvis

P.S. All depends on the condition, you don't want to get caught up in that mess on Ebay if you don't know what your doing. Also depends on what your time is worth (Obviously you got alot into it already making that list). Try selling those few key ones on Ebay. The rest, I would dump em.

Pull out the Keep. That is some decent money. Look over the other stuff, anything that has sold for over 10 bucks or 20 bucks, pull out and sell, the rest is yard trash. Sell it as a lot or as I said.

Thanks for the advice everyone, looks like I'm in the right ballpark. I was thinking a job lot but they're only worth what someone is willing to pay for them I guess.
