I saw a laserdisc hanging from a Noodle cart in Bangkok as a reflector last week. That was really an unexpected place!

In Black Sheep the Busey invites Chris Farley to come in and watch his collection of Bruce Lee laserdiscs. As if the Busey already wasn't cool enough!

Several Laserdiscs references in 30 Rock spotted. In the episode Apollo, Apollo in Season 3 the Frank character is wearing a Laserdisc hat. Later on in the series Liz Lemon's boyfriend Dennis announces his new business, which is taking DVDs and putting them on Laserdiscs

Not purely Laserdisc but I remember having lunch in a Dinner's in the middle of San Francisco back in 2005 and all the decorations on the walls were framed LD cover from Alfred Hitchcock movies!

That business reference made me spit my drink out when I first watched that!

Battlestar Galactica 1978 had an episode "Greetings from Earth" that had 2 androids, Hector and Vector, bringing out a laserdisc to show the kids with pictures of Terra on it.

So apparently someone brought in Star Wars Original Trilogy on LD on the AMC TV show "Comic Book Men." Haven't seen the show myself, but it appears to be similar to "Pawn Stars" as people bring comic related items sell and such. Here's the description from this one website as to how things went down . . .
Quote:
The final customer of this episode comes in carrying the non-altered versions of the ‘Star Wars’ trilogy on Laser disc. He boasts having every version of the trilogy ever released, however, he’s getting rid of this one because he no longer has the means to watch it. He’s looking for $100 for the set, which causes Walt to protest and rightfully so. Though they’re hard to find, no one has laser disc anymore. They strike a deal that involves answering two questions. If the customer gets them right, the set goes to the Stash for $60. If not, he gets Walt’s price. He got the first one wrong because he didn’t know what the TIE in “TIE fighter” stood for, which lead to Walt paying only $5 for ‘A New Hope’. Epic fail, sir. Nice try though.

If "no one has laser disc anymore" I'm going to head over to Red Bank and have them explain to me why the higher end LD players still sell for pretty steep prices on ebay!

i saw that part, flicking through the channels and it was on.
really lame that the guy was a total idiot, that's like me saying that amazing fantasy is only worth 5 bucks
since it's in a plastic case and people can't read it now.

OR that in general people don't read anymore if it's no on their kindle or ipad so it's worthless and you can get
a reprint for 5 bucks.

The radio ad for the stereo shop states "compact Laserdisc" i.e. 5in. compact disc (audio only) as it is an ad for car audio. Still a good reference though as many people don't know the CD is derived from the Laserdisc.

There is a great shot in "Chasing Amy" with a player and a stack of LDs.
Also in the commentary Smith makes a 'f**k DVD' comment as he was an LD supporter at the time but when you listen to the intro for the DVD be laughingly states that someone else besides himself made the comment
I have not listened to the new commentary track on the BD yet (both the LD and DVD are Criterions).

Stay well.

Was at the National Media Museum today in Bradford, on the TV Heaven floor there's a small display with video formats of the past. It included Jane Fonda's New Workout on CED and Star Wars on Laserdisc! Made me smile.

On a side note, very good museum, well worth checking out.

I found a laserdisc bundle left on my porch from an unknown gift giver.
Word traveled in my "small town" that I was a collector and so one day I opened my door and there was a milk crate full of LaserDiscs right there on my porch.
Now that was quite unexpected of all places to find them !!!!
Granted that I threw most of them away, I still had about three or four titles that made it to the shelves !
Quite Unexpected.......

Firehorse_44, I wish you'd have given them to Goodwill! I still occasionally find them at the one by my place.

Anyway, on the cover of her "Gloria!" album, Gloria Estefan is shown holding a laserdisc to her face. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria! Granted, in this photo it looks like an LP to some degree, but the disc shown is clearly silver and has no lead-in groove like an LP would have.

Yea, a great idea if they were in playable condition.....
These were rough specimens, most looked so beat up that it would not be worth the risk to put in a player.
The jackets were corrupted beyond belief !
Does not cancel out the well and good intentions of some stranger though !!!
Keep checking those good will stores peeps .........

I just found a new one.

I'm watching Episode 10 of Season 4 of "Scarecrow and Mrs. King", called "Need to Know". At 5:57 into the episode, Lee and Amanda are in Lee's apartment and the phone rings. There is a camera pan up from the couch past Lee's stereo, and sitting there on the shelf is a Sylvania VP-7200 Player. It's clearly there for "show" because there is a turn table on top of it, but I thought it was a hoot!

hm.. Since no one has posted this yet, there was even a whole episode of the cartoon series "Regular Show" all about Laserdisc. Looks like the creators are filmbuffs as well. Totally fanservice for everyone who loves LDs
