Just wondering if you lot remove the shrink or leave it on your LDs when applicable

Good morning Jakeheke,

I hope you are well Sir

I personally took all of the shrink wrap off of my new and mint used Laserdisc's, then placed each disc into a Vinyl anti static sleeves, and the outer covers into resealable protection covers.

All are in pristine or next to new condition and protected from any dust.

Kind Regards to you

I remove it if I like the LD. When it turns out to be a lame duck I leave the wrap alone.

Good evening to you!

Which resealable covers do you use?

Hi Jakeheke,

In the day when most of my collection were purchased I had the really good quality USA clear covers with the 2 inch dust flap over.

Then eventually when I was no longer able to get hold of these I purchased around 300 resealable sleeves from a Julian (The Administrator who is a great seller to do business with) and then Nicolas Santini in japan.

The later resealable sleeves are not as thick as the first type but they do the sames job and are good enough for me (I am very picky :) )

Mr Santini who then moved from Tokyo to Australia with his inventory of over 10,000 laserdisc That he crated and paletted 375 of them himself, and hardware that is mostly in a controlled temperature storage facility in Japan.

I have one more LD x 10 title order to purchase from him and then some less pricey titles after that.

I believe he still has many resealable sleeves 100 x pack for around £30
I was informed by Mr Santini that I am the only customer that he is doing business with, due to his other businesses taking up most of his time.

The above sleeves can also be purchased from Ebay sellers, and I still see then come up for sale there new.

Kindest regards to you

I bought a lot of like 200 or so discs, all had the shrink on and it just looked terrible to me, so as others have said I just took it off and replaced it with some vinyl sleeves for the ones I cared about, and left the others exposed to the harsh elements of my living-room.

The bags I used to get from Starship were very good, but I’ve had a lot of them go brittle on the spines. And I can’t get them anymore. I’ve been using covers from bags unlimited with a fold over flap and putting two strips of double sided tape to seal them. This seems to work pretty well.

I only have a few sealed copies anymore, but once something is open, I always pull off the original shrink.

I leave the original shrink on only if there's a sticker involved.

THX / Dolby Digital ect Stickers I try to take off and put them on a suitable space on the cover.

Thank you Forper, as this is a good point.

Kind Regards

Same. I tried doing what benmbe did but I found the THX sticker never quite adhered to the cover properly.

It's kind of annoying since there's at least one disc where I'd toss the shrink without a second thought but there's an unusual sticker on it.

i just cleanly cut any stickers/price tags i wish to retain off the shrink,
and either glue/tape them on the jacket, in a complementary place, or, more commonly, onto the inner disc sleeve...

Perhaps only me but I would never tape or glue any stickers from the outer wrap onto the cover, most I have that came with stickers on the shrinkwrap I have cut carefully around & pop them into a small thin poly bag & put inside the cover - sticker safely stored away & keeps the release as complete as possible.

Some of the Japanese sticker obi's do have interesting info on them & I do like to keep the LDs as complete as I can.

I used to pull the sticker off the shrink and apply it to the vinyl cover to approximate the original effect. Sometimes I've had issues with them getting wrinkled when sliding them in/out of the shelf. With some, I have done as suggested above, cut them out and put them inside the sleeve.

All my laserdiscs I buy used from thrift stores, flea markets, swap meets, etc. I will usually leave the celly on if it is clean and only slit across the opening of the cover. I can't stand celly that is ripped and flapping in the wind/ gets bunched up when I slide the laserdisc on the shelf. Plus, I like to look at gatefolds so I will always remove the celly off those.
