In my case, it's from eBay online auctions. Coming from a small town in the state of Ohio ... even the biggest city's near me do not have much of a used selection to choose from. Probably received about a 150 LD(s) by mail ... with zero damaged discs. Have I been lucky? A few others were purchased at used book stores. |

duffsflix.com - He used to sell on eBay but quit due to eBay's rising fees. I've had very good luck with him. also buy direct from Japan - Snow Records. They sell used laserdiscs in great shape. I got my 2 Max Headroom discs from them. Once a year I get to Amoeba Records in Hollywood and buy a stack of laserdiscs from them. I have just gotten sick of poorly packed items from eBay. I am so tired of sellers blaming their shoddy packing on the shipper. I've had a bunch of laserdiscs damaged by poor packing, reel to reel tape recorders thrown in a cardboard box with ZERO packing, laserdisc players shipped without the locking screws and no packing (and with a disc still inside)..... sorry about the rant. |

I've bought many from local stores here in North Texas, & some through eBay. The bulk of my library, though, has come as private sales from individuals who contacted me because of my reputation as "the" anime LD guy. |

I buy the most of mine from The Princeton Record Exchange here in New Jersey (www.prex.com) they have pretty good prices and you never know what you'll find there. I've gotten a few titles off of eBay as well such as: Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, The Making of Star Wars, Star Wars Trilogy (Japan) Collector's Edition, and My Neighbor Totoro. But most of the titles I've wanted I was able to get locally, thankfully! |

I've bought many LD(s) from Duff also ... when he was on eBay and from his new website since he moved off eBay. I've heard of many people receiving damaged LD(s) and LD players. Not sure why I haven't had any trouble. Normally I buy from dealers I trust ... like Cheap Charlie Laserdiscs as an example ... but I do occasionally buy from others who do not handle LD(s) on a regular basis. Rarely ... some arrived poorly packaged but the most damage I've received were to the covers (slightly bent). I have never received a damaged LD player ... ordered four via mail. The dealers I've purchased from were experienced at packing & shipping electronic gear and arrived undamaged. All and all though ... I may have just been lucky to date. |

I buy alot from e-bay and also a few other sites. The secret is to know your sellers, and how they package. Then stick with them (good ones) and let them know your request if there is a disc your looking for. |

Well, in this respect eBay has most definitely been my friend. There is nothing...and I do mean NOTHING...here in the UK the likes of which even comes close to the kinds of finds you folks are finding. We have places like Cash Converters, but you'd be hard pressed to even find a VHS machine in one of them! It is on occasions like this that the internet has been my friend. If not for eBay, then certainly for forums as they have been very helpful to my collecting. My last haul was a collection of LDs given to me for free due to a house move. Nothing unusual in the titles but they were free and the chap was a real gentleman. he was clearly in the middle of things but gave us an awful lot of his time. On the occasion before that, I acquired to boxed and fully functional LD players (and DVL-909 and a CLD-2950) and about 50 titles, a CED player with a spare new stylus and about 50 titles, all for free. Just for the sake of not having the room. None of that would have been possible without the old www I also have a friend in Japan that sends me about 4 LDs from Japan every month...again thanks to the 'net forums. |

There's a few stores here in Los Angeles that carry used discs. I've bought many from Amoeba and Atomic Records. I've had great luck with eBay but I buy from the same sellers also. Duff's, Charlie's, and a few others. |

Since LaserDisc never really caught on here in Kentucky, there were only about 3 or 4 retailers here locally, even when the discs were still being made. In the late 90's and early new millenium, the market here almost completely dried up. Now there is only one used consignment shop here, Pop's Resale, which has a few. Unfortunately, he rarely gets much in the way of new stuff. He has virtually no imports whatsoever, and as a result, he seldom has anything of interest to me, as I hardly ever buy anything but imports now. I would have to say that eBay auctions are my primary source for new material. I wish that I had a better alternative, as I sometimes have to give more than I really want to in order to prevail in auctions with some of the more serious competitors. Unfortunately, that is what I often am forced to do, since most of what I buy falls into the "rarest of the rare" category. When dealing with this type of material, one has to be prepared to "dig down deep" if a title comes along that one truly wants to acquire. I realize that in the case of many of the titles I own, if you miss the copy up for sale today, it may be a VERY VERY long time, IF EVER, before another copy surfaces. Although eBay would certainly not be my first choice, most of the types of titles I collect seldom appear anywhere else. I should mention that I traded a lot with Big Emma's until they went out of business. I bought several hundred discs from them, maybe even 1000. I was heartbroken when they reached the end of the trail. I have also bought quite a few discs from Chuck Legg at Discount LaserDisc, who has his own website. He is a great guy, very friendly and a real class act. I highly recommend him as a source of material, and his prices are usually very reasonable. For many of the Japanese release titles I have, I have relied on Nicolas Santini (n$a) who sells here on LDDb. For any title you might be looking for from Japan, he is absolutely THE MAN to deal with. I have bought several hundred titles from him as well. I gave him a list of a lot of Japanese releases I was looking for, much of it really weird and obscure stuff I had never seen a copy of before. Within a year or two, he found everything on the list for me. I am certain he would be happy to do the same for any of you out there who might be seeking rare Japanese releases. The quality of the material he deals in is the very highest that is available, and his packaging is the most thorough and cautious I have ever seen! I have NEVER received a damaged disc from him. He's another really classy seller, and the best around at what he does. Well, that's my opinion, for what it's worth. David |

I've done mostly ebay though Half Price books epescially in the Houston area was quite nice. I've done Da Don's once only since he seemed the only one to have Slaughterhouse-five at the time and strange it had a changing from big letterbox to smaller letterbox. Also Laserdisc Vault and Bullruckle is great on discs |

Nice Thread here! OK, First started collecting through the Columbia House Laserdisc Club !!! Yes, first 6 titles for some insanely low price with the agreement to buy one over the next two years..... It was game on Had a girlfriend circa 1995 that won a Pioneer player at a raffle and she only used it for CD's........ That's how I got started!!! Found discount titles in stores clearing out there inventory for the next few years as the dvd new kid on the block took over. Moved AZ in '99...... In Phoenix there was a LaserDisc rental store called "Lazer Video" owned by a likable chap named Lazer Bob! I was a regular there needless to mention. He ordered me a copy of "Phantom Menace" when that title hit the streets in Japan ! Well, when it came time for him to close the doors, he invited me to his home to pour through thousands of titles. Over the course of a year I visited him a dozen or so times and lightened his load as much as humanly possible....... Since moving east, I visit family in Michigan where there are several used record stores and cult classic video rentals in the metro area that still have some quantity for sale. Thomas video, flipside records to name a couple........... Bought many through those outlets, and due for a visit currently..............LOL Duffs,DaDons,The Vault, misc dealers through the internet, and many ebayers have helped me a great deal. The "know your Dealer" montra is key. Thrown away a good many titles upon receiving for no better reason then lack of integrity and poor shipping skills........... On a good note there were many jewels in the rough! Only after this extensive seeking for the grails, did I stumble upon the LDDB.... Now- A Dream come true selling worldwide while still collecting. The pain of parting with titles still stings though.............. |

Pretty much all of those mentioned. While on the subject, anyone know what happened to Laserdiscplanet.com? Site has a message: "The LaserDisc Store won't be reopening until 2013" |

(The one in Burbank?) I sold most of my laserdiscs to Amoeba in Los Angeles. It's very probable that you might have bought one of my used LDs there. Back in the mid '90s I used to buy my new laserdiscs mostly from Dave's Video in Studio City. Did you ever shop there? It was a nice place, where you'd see the occasional celebrity buying their LDs and expensive A/V equipment. I've only bought a few LDs through Ebay, such as a few Golden Age of Looney Tunes volumes and the Japanese LD of Song of the South. |
