Just got Doctor Who: The Brain of Morbius; unfortunately heavily cut but I don't have it in any other format.

I'll add a photo etc when I'm working on a real computer, travelling with an iPad right now.

That is a very rare title on Laserdisc. How much did you pay for it?

Sorry - I forgot to check this thread. I got it for £3 in a shop in Nottingham, UK, I've posted details of the location in another thread, since they had more disks

I didn't post a picture of the sleeve because it's in poor condition - badly creased and marked. Fortunately the disk is OK apart from a couple of small brown marks on the rim that don't seem to have affected performance.

Here are my two new additions to my collection (now 202)
have wanted a better print than my Filmpac Australian VHS release of Monster Squad for decades and finally sourced this awesome version of Maximum Overdrive

These are definitely going on display in the retro room

I have the other japanese LD edition of Maximum Overdrive.
does anyone know if there's any difference between both pressings, on runtime, picture quality, format etc. etc?

Artwork design of the above japanese edition looks much better than my artwork edition

which edition is the one to prefer overall?

Why did you buy this on LD ;)

I had one of these sets, its a nice LD box.
And i was able to finally watch all the films, the first and second ones were the best but the third was watchable.
I always liked those Japanese boxes rather than the USA pressings.

I am actually a big fan of part 3.

The reason I bought it is because I kind of gotten very much in
to trilogy box sets. I am expecting the Back to the future set soon.

The video quality is great and they are awesome display pieces.

It is a nice box, i do agree with that.

Collecting LDs should be reasons you have yourself not others.

I had many reasons to buy the discs i have over the years, but now i'm selling off or trying to sell off some discs
when the LD market is i feel the softest its ever been.

When bluray came out the market took a dive but its much worse now.

I definitely watch all lasers i buy.

We all know Forper is a nuts but I'm waiting for someone to take down TheRussian's lame "you're just jealous" defense. Collecting late releases specifically...as if these LDs are somehow more interesting than stuff released 5 years earlier, has always seemed like something someone would do if they had some sort of emotional disorder that prevented the collector from actually watching the movies. Explaining such weirdness away with the "jealous hater" defense doesn't enforce your case for paying $1500 for an unwatchable movie one iota. Would your mother be proud you own such overpriced garbage? Your spouse? Your financial adviser? Any film critic on Earth? The director of the movie? Anyone?

I'd be solidly embarrassed if someone I know found out I owned a copy of The Cell or The Sixth Day...on *any* format since my friends are used to me exhibiting some sort of standard other than "the Internet said it was worth money" when I add movies to the library.

And no, I'm not saying this because I want to raise my mood by attacking others. My mood is fine. And I'm sure as *hell* not jealous of someone else's garbage movie collection. This is more like when you see a burning cattle truck tipped over on the side of the road and you can't help but wonder how it happened and if there is anyway way to stop more messed up stuff from happening in the future.

Aahh, nice. Refreshing to see someone else here being honest for a change

How can you improve if you don't know what you're doing wrong?

Nah I'm 44 and been collecting since 1980 on many formats plus retro gaming

I'd rather have obscure/quirky LD-only disks (or ones that are rare on DVD too!) than a late release that's trivial to get on DVD or BR myself. However, if I saw a late LD for $5-10 at a thrift shop or sale, I'd be all over it

Precisely. I am not interested in the late releases at all. I would however want to buy The Beach because I really love that movie and it has a nice cover.
But in fact, I would much rather buy 50 obscure Hong Kong or Taiwanese discs noone has ever heard of instead of spending hundreds of dollars on Mission
Impossible 2. But that's only my opinion.
