In an attempt to apologise and help get this thread back on track; here are my latest purchases:

Jason and the Argonauts (1963) [EE 1014]
Seven (Se7en): Special Edition #298 (1995) [CC1450L]

Seven is spectacular; a lovely transfer and great audio. I love that the release has seven playable sides, nice attention to detail.

I bought Jason mostly for the PAL colour bars. The colour bars are just what I needed for calibrating my PAL discs and works great...but sadly produces an image that is much too dark for Jason. There picture is overall nice but heavy early 90s DNR has been used, also sadly there is massive audio glitch during the famous skeleton fight. I'd only recommend getting this one for the colour bars and extras.

No, YOU just got destroyed because apparantly the wires are visible on all formats except DVD which had them digitally taken out.

Hahaha, you have proven nothing.

I know that I proved in another thread that my LD of Blade Runner shows more detail than the BD.

It's just that subtle fine LD picture that wins on older material, sorry to break it to you, you got duped again by the "newer equals better" propaganda.

You got so badly destroyed that you have resorted to ranting, flip flopping and contradicting yourself left, right and center because you have no leg to stand on as hippiedalek can also see. Whats new to me is that the Directors Cut on LD digitally removed the wires as well, which makes the Blu-Ray more respectful than the altered LD and DVD of the DC version of the film.

Now you are going back to another argument of which I very easily proved you wrong again, and you made yourself look even more incompetent when you posted screenshots of your LD with picture settings that were in some kind of vivid mode with the contrast, brightness, sharpness all cranked up making for a blown out, noisy ugly mess.

I could still see more detail on the LD than on the BD captures.

No, wrong. The LD release is long outdated to use as any sorta reference point, and you had it set up incorrectly anyway. Those 2 things go further to show how you have no idea of what film should look like.

I am not saying that my posts are extremly informative and awesome but at least I do not go around insulting other people. I think we should simply ignore forper and stop feeding
this forum's troll. I am tired of reading his insults and I think he is also poisoning the atmosphere here. Continuing any further discussions with this "mate" is entirely pointless.

No, you're wrong again. The settings that were wrong were with my camera, not my display. I know nothing about photography but even with a bad photo everyone could see more of the tiling on Deckard's balcony than the BD captures of the same shot showed. In reality the picture is truly beautiful and balanced with Super Fine Pitch mode engaged on my Sony WEGA 8-)

forper is as ignorant and as contradictory as they come. He doesn't understand what film looks like and he doesn't listen to fact or reason. He also doesn't even have his TV calibrated correctly, so his view of what film should look like is even further distorted when you factor in that LD (as much as we all love it) is at the source a fair way off of what directors/cinematographers intended when they shot the films.

Yes I do. I keep telling you this but you fail to understand the difference between a TV and a camera.

A nicely done LD is usually a lot closer to what the director intended than a lot of BDs of old films are today. That is unquestionable and widely agreed upon.

No you don't. You were describing exactly what was on screen which was a ugly noisy mess of a presentation. All kinds of wrong.

Only in the most extreme of extreme cases which are extremely rare like the 2010 UHE BD of Predator where even a blank VHS tape recorded off TV would be better, but most of the time, a half decent BD will murder a LD or DVD as far as accuracy goes which is something you are too much of a biased troll to see.

Wow - this thread is getting really funny..So there are still people out there thinking that LD owns BD ? Ok, funny ;-)...don´t feed it..
My latest additions are something special for me:

Haus an der Friedhofmauer, Das (1981), PAL Laserdisc and
Invaders from Mars - Elite Disc, LBX

I´m so glad that I have now a complete Astro Laserdisc Collection, even the unofficial ones /Boots. It´s wellknown that those discs are qualitywise not always the best, but what makes them special is the fact that most Astros are Horror/Action Movies, and quite a few were banned in the days back then. Having them all now makes me pretty satisfied :-)
I´m working on a complete Elite Collection, but that will take some more time.

Post subject:  Re: What was the last laserdisc you bought?

Years after receiving a broken Babe: Pig in the City (US) I managed to find another copy. Months after that I managed to clear my schedule and watch it.

Personally, I'm hugely disappointed in the movie itself. I know it has a lot of hardcore fans but IMO those people are hipster weirdos latching on to something that wasn't in the first movie. While technically flawless, it just isn't for me. If you like watching highly realistic animals in extreme uninterrupted peril for 1:37, or if you want to see a Mickey Rooney play a retarded clown and then be indirectly killed (dead) by a pig, do check it out.

As an LD this is very very good. Colors are beautiful. I can't say one bad thing about it. Even zoomed for the letterbox the image was still as good as anything SD on my 34" HDCRT. The 5.1 was also great, even though it's mostly the sounds of animals getting the crap kicked out of them or knocking things down. As a reference, IMO a top-tier LD from the later era would be, for example, Goldeneye. Again, a movie I don't like but as an LD it's as good as it gets. I'd put Babe: Pig in the City in that same category. It's very good. Austin Powers good.

Thank you, Flecha, for your contributions.

It is really interesting to see there were so many Spanish releases on LD. The cover is very nice, too.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, the three-disk boxed US letterboxed edition, in really nice condition - still has some plastic foam at the back of the box and an insert sheet in the box.

Got it for £5 which seemed pretty good - the shop I got it from had a few single disk movies at £8 each, which seemed very bizarre, but nothing I particularly wanted. It's the Cancer Research charity shop in Portobello Road, London, if anyone else is in the area and wants to check. Sorry, I forgot to write down the titles and my mind's gone blank on them.

Always loved that movie. The original hand drawn art work is beautiful.

I picked up a copy of "Double Exposure" (The 1994 movie with Ron Perlman) which has eluded me for a very long time.
