Just picked up on eBaY, J. Lee Thompson, "Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects" (1989) on LASERDISC Japan NTSC. Starring Charles Bronson.

Should be playing here late this month in Image / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System.

Other than the downloadable Despecilaised editions, these are the best presentations of the UOT money can buy, the best on home video. They both cost me together in total $91 including international shipping, and ESB came with a OBI (not pictured). Both in very good condition. I think I got a good deal.

Well I bet the shipping was the heavy part, those weight a ton. Lovely editions, and they are getting quite rare. Personally I rather have these instead of the box set.

You know, there was a serious lack of Jean Claude Van Damme in my laserdisc collection. I decided to rectify that.

I've watched a couple of them, they are just as good or better than I remember. Maximum Risk is a rotter though...

Not laserdiscs but I found these on another forum. They are D-Theater bootlegs. Someone went through all the trouble and made D-Theater tapes, recording films from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime etc.., printed nice cover arts. The whole lot was cheap enough, I was curious how they were made, I bought them all. I am very impressed, whoever made them took his time. They are on S-VHS tapes but recorded in D-VHS in 1080i with Dolby sound. Some of the films like Star Trek 4 has the OAR of 2.20:1 too.

Do you have actual D-VHS tapes to compare the bootlegs to?

I got Strictly Ballroom yesterday and it was shipped in a cardboard box with lots of air pillows via UPS. The LD is in very good condition.

I received another LD today (Quest for Camelot) that was not in very good condition. It was shipped in a bubble wrap padded envelope by USPS and was broken in half. Since I only paid $5.48 for it ($0.99 for the LD and the rest for shipping), I decided not to request my money back and to eat the cost. Instead, I left some not very flattering feedback on Amazon for the seller. Basically, I said that future LD buyers should avoid the seller as the seller does not know how to pack LD's.

When you compare today's LD with the one that I got some time ago (Ben Hur 35'th anniversary box set), Ben Hur cost me $1.00 and it was in perfect condition with all LD's unbroken. When will sellers ever learn?

I am certain that I will hear from the seller and/or Amazon about this.

I have every single dtheater tape put out but these boitlegs are different films. D-vhs records at 28mbps constant bitrate so any cable tv recording will look exact.

Here a few pictures for you. Now the bad news, none of the tapes work! My HM-DH5U will detect the D-VHS signal but can't lock onto it. I received these tapes on a day it was pretty cold. This could be one reason, or they were made on a Mitsubishi D-VHS deck that JVC don't like.

D-VHS video on a S-VHS tape was a common trick back in the day. You can modify the S-VHS tape and the VCR will recognize it as D-VHS tape. They are not the same magnetic but the trick works. D-VHS blanks were too expensive(still are).

those pictures are great thanks

A real shame they don't work...
Consider buying a mitsubitshi player for the sake of science or would they work on a "regular" S-video player ?
I'm impressed with those tapes. like you mentioned, someone went trough a great deal of time making them.

Do hope you get to watch them if not just send 'em to Belgium... I'll figure it out

I will try them on a mitsu deck for sure. Since I have the masters now, I can duplicate them through firewire without any loss. I will make you copies but give me a few months.

Mitsu decks don't have hd component output hah. You record in HD and watch in SD. The only way to get HD is through firewire which no TV has.

Hi kris, thank you for your comment.
It is still easy to buy spanish laser disc, there are still some online stores and second hand shops,on ebay you can still find something too.
Trilogies are already more difficult and expensive to get(back to the future,Die hard, the godfather, star wars, alien, etc)

Regards and thank again.

I got an LD of Fahrenheit 451 yesterday.

I remember watching the movie on TV when I was much younger and found the storyline interesting.
