Just a heads up to people annoyed that I keep capturing movies on different laserdisc players. I will be capturing Dark Tide and Demonic Toys with the CLD 3080's D.EXT feature because someone has claimed this improves the blacks and whites. Apparently the CLD 3080 is one of the rare if not only laserdisc players with this feature. I did not know this and I have not captured yet with this. I am capturing now and i do think I notice a difference but it could be a placebo effect where someone says one thing online when in reality it's not much different. I also have a CLD-99 coming in the mail and as much as it pains some of you I might capture the same movies again to see how it looks on that player. I mean I guess I can capture other movies too and then compare the CLD-3080 to the CLD-99. Just so I can change it up a bit. Now what are good movies to show off the capabilities of this D.EXT feature? Would it be movies such as Terminator, Alien, Aliens, or movies with some darker black scenes and maybe movies that have a bit of white in them too? Feel free to throw movie titles out there. I have Friday the 13th 1-8 but the third movie is rotted and I also have Noes 1-6.

Edit: I think I might capture The Odyssey which is a great looking laserdisc from what I remember but it's such a long movie. I believe it's 3 hours long. This might be a good movie to test with the CLD-3080 D.EXT feature and the CLD-99 coming in the mail.

Movie: Dinosaurs AKA Adventures in Dino City Dinosaurs (1991) [PILF-7226]

Info: This is the Japanese Widescreen version and it's completely in english dubbed for the first audio track. I don't know how to get to the second track for the Japanese audio but I believe it's possible. There is Japanese subtitles briefly in this movie. Such as when a computer says something on it Japanese subtitles will pop up for a quick second and later one when they are introducing certain areas in the movie they will show Japanese subtitles. Overall this is not a problem because most of the movie there are no subtitles.

I also had the brightness set at 50 for this particular movie with Hauppauge because this movie was clearly filmed dark probably to make the costumes look more realistic and it's probably a low budget movie. I purposely decided to show different screen shots on lddb because I thought it would be kind of stupid to post the same exact screen captures on both websites.

Panasonic LX-900 rev 1995 vs Pioneer CLD-3080

Panasonic LX-900 Pros: I think the colors are better and it shows more detail with the example of the bald spot on the top of the head while on the CLD-3080 it's not picking up that detail. Both were captured at the same brightness levels. Maybe if I turn down the brightness levels for the CLD-3080 it would match up better? I doubt it. Not just that but on my Dell 32 inch 4k curved monitor the colors just look better on the Panasonic. The reds look red with the example of the Convertible.

Cons: The Panasonic LX-900 has a defect that cuts off 5 percent of the right side of the screen

Pioneer CLD-3080 Pros: Shows the entire image.

Cons: Has a black line bar at the bottom of the screen but it's very small and barely taking any of the picture off. I feel like the colors look more yellow on the CLD-3080 which is unnatural looking to me.

Best looking laserdiscs in my personal opinion is Cav side of Child's Play 2, Ernest scared stupid clv, and Pinnochio's Revenge clv. I think the last two movies are the best looking clv can get. I'm more fond of 4:3 aspect ratio when it comes to this format. The Cav side of Child's Play 2 is probably the best this format can look but that's only the last 20-25 minutes of that movie sadly. Also the charlie brown stuff is cav format and looks gorgeous too so we can throw that in there but I'd imagine that cartoons at 4:3 aspect ratio are usually going to look pretty good. The last six screens on my child's play 2 captures is CAV side. It shows a lot of details in the eyes.

Info: This laserdisc has slight rot at times with speckles that pop up real quick. It's not awful. It's definitely watchable. Throwing that warning out there for those that might want to add this to their collection. I would suggest messaging sellers of this laserdisc to find out if this is common with this laserdisc. For the right price I don't think it would be bad but I don't think it would be smart to pay 80 or 100 dollars for a laserdisc with slight rot. Again quite watchable but I wonder if this affects the majority of The Mutilator laserdiscs. I would categorize it as light rot but my definition of light rot might be different than others.

While I know you have a bunch of discs and I'm sure you have seen rot, from those pics I don't see anything that sticks out.
Also you need to remember these films, while shot and put onto home video only a few years later they do sometimes have
dirt on the original source and were made fast with cheap film stock so you may see issues too.

The Multilator is absolutely BRILLIANT. I have it on Blu Ray though, but still it's a great film, lots of fun. Highly recommended.

If it's not rot it's still very unattractive looking and is very noticeable at times. I label things that can bother people's eyes as rot and my vision isn't even good. I wear glasses and I feel like my prescription is never 100 percent correct.
