I have all of Star Trek on DVD, now converted to H.264 for Plex, and I have to say it looks pretty good. I have S1 of TOS in 576 lines because it was the R2 HD DVD with DVD on flip side. DVD was PAL. TNG is getting the Blu-ray treatment so I can't wait to see how it's improved. I don't think I could ever go to LD for TV shows. It would be near impossible to collect all episodes and discs, store them and get them out to play them right when you want to. I find grabbing the remote for my Mac mini and finding the episode much easier. I like LD's for films and music. And I am a completist so there's no way LD would work in TV land for me. I'd imagine DS9 would be next for Blu-ray so can't wait for that too.

Laserdisc is like owning an experience, and that will never change for me personally and I am happy with that.

The Blu-ray disc collections of all the Star Trek next generation episodes will be the one for me.

When they were all released on DVD I was to busy purchasing Laserdisc's and LD and DVD's & hardware ect. . . . . . So I never had enough funds to purchase the T.N.G box sets, of which were priced around the £120 to £140 price point of which I couldn't justify at the time.

To be honest I suppose I was holding off until a HiDef version came out.

I shall look forward to when they are all released on Blu-Ray and shall hopfully be purchasing the next generation, deep space nine, voyager & enterprise.

Paramount by all accounts I think, are giving the Star Trek franchise their best attention & with the best resources, in making the Blu-Ray transfers the best that this format can offer.

By the time their released I should have hopefully paid for my last main Laserdisc order, but that very rarely goes to plan.

I shall do my best and shall look forward to owning at some stage all of Star Trek on Blu-ray

Regards

I have to agree with laserlord on this topic even though I like the minimalist packaging of DVD and Blu-ray.
I have my DVDs and BDs on one set of shelving and my Laserdisc separate. I have the two different collections for mostly different reasons and admit that I spin very few LDs compared to DVD/BD. The Laserdiscs are more collectors items for me other than when the LD has supplement that DVD/BD does not have or if the film is not available on the newer formats.
LD is still definitely king with the box sets and beautiful gatefold jackets even if the Blu-ray crushes it in PQ/SQ. Nothing beats looking at a great Laserdisc cover!

For me the Laserdisc is still amazing considering the way the video was encoded. The soundtrack of Escape From LA was brilliant certainly on the PCM track, never did have the equipment to decode the AC3 track but hope to one day though that could be the disc was THX certified while DVDs generally aren't. The Blu-ray version will no doubt match up with the soundtrack on it since Blu-ray discs are a lot louder than DVDs which makes both LDs & Blu-ray discs much better than DVDs
