tim_p, Yeah I had a gander around a few nights ago and some software you have pay for, that's understandable. As for the last scene from The Hindenburg (1975) the rumble of the flames and airship breaking apart, and incredible that so many managed to walk away from that tragic disaster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWci-qkKl5EAnother airship cash Black Sunday (8/8) Movie CLIP - Crashing the Super Bowl (1977) HD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xknWZIAzBCc

Black Sunday - one of my favourites. Quality production from top to bottom, the great Robert Shaw and another fine '70s score from, guess who, John Williams. It is? (checking imdb) yeah your right and I'm at a loss how this flew under my radar. John Williams is one many best. I checked database a letterbox edition was made, mono only while I think the DVD is 2.0 stereo.

Dvd is 2.0 restored mono - it was a mono movie. Dvd also has a new 5.1 mix but flip that.

Black Sunday - one of my favourites. Quality production from top to bottom, the great Robert Shaw and another fine '70s score from, guess who, John Williams. The original soundtrack scores to Jaws and Earthquake were re-recordings for the albums releases since the score used in the films were done quickly and not to the composers satisfaction. Amazingly, both soundtracks were released in Japan in 4-channel quadraphonic on the CD-4 Quadradisc format in 1977. Even the Sensurround rumble track on Earthquake's quad release was taken directly from the rumble generator and not tape like the US LP and CD releases. I've had both quad LP's made into DVD-Audio/Video (for all format compatability) discs and they sound fantastic - its great to hear the actual score as used in the films and not rerecordings that are 'close' but not exact. And since the CD-4 LP format was truly discrete and not a 4:2:4 matrix, the quad effect is wonderful. The Hindenburg score was supposedly released in quad, but no one has seen it. jVC imported 700 copies each of Jaws and Earthquake to the US, so I've always been thrilled to own these discs, especially on DVD-A. Too bad The Towering Inferno was never released in quad - but don't you love it how John Williams uses themes from ...Imferno in the main Earthquake theme?

Yes, there's a bit of crossover in both, which considering they were composed by the same person in the same year for the same genre of film isn't too surprising. For me Inferno is the better score, but it's a close one between their respective opening credits cues. I love the edgy horn intro in Earthquake followed by the piano. And yes there's a rising passage in there that is straight out of Inferno. Seems Williams' '70s scores, like Jerry Goldsmith, had their share of re-recordings. I've got the Poseidon and Inferno complete scores, but not the Earthquake re-recording. It's oop and owned, I think, in perpetuity by Varese who, and like with Jaws 2, The Eiger Sanction and Dracula, don't seem in a rush to do anything with it. I just hope they get released some day, original score and re-recording. I've read the background on those quad recordings on the qq forum. They must sound amazing. If JVC had the licence to issue Universal/MCA scores then logically as the films were made in close succession The Hindenburg could/should exist but if no one's ever seen a copy perhaps it's just a logical assumption that never actually materialised? Just wait, Recobanchou will probably list one tomorrow...

And both in 35mm - nice, especially considering other films showing there like 2001 and Apocalypse Now are DCPs. Whilst they're Sensurround prints I think I've read previously that it's not the real/full deal as they, quite simply, don't have the hardware any more and it's just a (pretty good) replication courtesy of whatever subs they've got in the auditorium. http://www.meyersound.com/news/2009/sensurround/?type=40Still, a lot better than nothing that's for sure.
