substance wrote: Ultimate list of Laserdisc titles that are technically and/or content wise significant
Here is the list of Laserdisc titles that are technically unique (i.e. only OAR edition, theatrical audio mix etc.) and do not have any equivalent on any other format. The list also includes Laserdisc titles that have extra content or different cuts of the content that are not available on any other format. Firstly, let me say that this is a great initiative! I have been doing some research on this issue myself over the last past years, although not very systematic. But I’ll check up on my findings, see if they are still relevant, and post what I know about LDs that are in different ways unique on LD compared to BD and DVD. At least two titles on your list are however out on PAL Reg. 2 DVD in OAR with english audio and removable subs. These titles are: Moon 44 Cyborg 2
Moon 44 is out on Danish DVD in two different versions, one of them (the middle one in the picture below) includes a booklet written by yours truly. Both releases have exellent picture in full scope format Cyborg 2 is out on German DVD, also in full scope format. Here’s a picture of these DVDs. Both are by by the way IMO solid and extremely underrated movies too! Would love to do a picture-comparison with the japanese LDs, but don’t have them (yet!).

class316 wrote: Regarding original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars trilogy, those were made available on DVD. The 2006 box sets have both the 2004 editions and the original theatrical editions (albeit in non-anamorphic form). The OT editions were added rather crappily in my opinion, and many others. They are nice looking laserdisc transfers but they're riddled with their own issues .... just like every other version of the Trilogy that has been officially released on DVD or Bluray. I believe the Japanese Special Collector's Editions on Laserdisc are probably the nicest looking analog versions of the OT at this point.

A friend of mine found out about this one. It isn't - as far as I've been able to find out - out on DVD: http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/14509/SF0 ... llo-spazio)-(1988) Italian E.T. rip off. Only for the ardent fan of italian b-cinema! We both had to have it of course.

Hmm... Has the author of this thread abandoned the project? Not too much point in making new entries if the list isn't updated with new discoveries, I think.

On another note, I too am curious about the Toy Story thing.

And if you can find the elusive Technidisc repressing of Star Wars, then you have what is IMO the best transfer of the film.
