Cold Turkey (1971) should be on the list. Warners Archive did release a MOD DVD-r of the movie some time ago, but it was a non-anamorphic matted letterbox release, and the soundtrack had an annoying echo effect. (It's now out of print.) The LD was release in Academy ratio, with the original mono soundtrack.

What about The Compeat Tex Avery? Most of those cartoons are still missing on DVD/BD.

Tom and Jerry is the same. With Warner refusing to release even a volume 2 it looks like the Tom and Jerry sets on laserdisc are the only way to get 90% of the cartoons uncut.

Addition to Chapter 7:

Ghostbusters - Criterion lost rights to this and no DVD / BD (Criterion) exists. The CAV release also contains supplementary material never released on either DVD or BD editions.

That seems to be happening a lot now. Studio canal just released Scars of Dracula on blu-ray but without the Lee running commentary simply because they didn't or couldn't get the rights.

Not all countries dub movies anyway. Here in Norway only material intended for children gets dubbed, since they usually can't read yet. I personally don't understand countries that dub material intended for teens and adults. Either way, subtitles are not that difficult to avoid looking at if you understand the spoken language. I don't see the problem.

It's not the case as much now, but European films were often dubbed in one language because directors would use stars from multiple countries, all speaking their lines in their own language. Having three different characters speak to each other in French, Italian, and Spanish with subtitles would have been weird.

Doesn't the original Matrix DVD also use the original colour grading? I don't think it was changed until the numerous trilogy box sets.

The colour grading on the laserdisc is certainly different to any other version I've seen

As far as I can tell, the DVD release of An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is at 1.33:1 ratio (not sure if open-matte or cropped) while the Laserdisc release is widescreen.

An American Tail: Fievel Goest West appears to have been released on blu-ray in the proper aspect ratio of 1.85:1

There's good comparison pics at capsaholic between the original DVD and the later releases; maybe someone should try taking matching caps of the LD and see how they measure up?

I mean, I definitely want to see for myself.

No scarts only composite. That's pretty typical of most UK OLED's now which is why I need to a professional S-VHS to HDMI video processor.

Well, you can blow money on it and see but I seriously doubt its worth the money and is probably a downgrade over a TV with a good SD stage. The comb filter on any LD player is a pretty funny joke compared to todays DSP. Even the color boost that comes from the CLD-99's s-video isn't as good as what a good TV will do with the composite if given a chance.

Will give those comments serious consideration

To be clear: I’m not against external processors at all, I’m just saying you probably want to feed them composite.

It's just the fact that both the X9 and S9 have seriously powerful internal image processing

20103 Twister had about 5 seconds of Philip Seymour Hoffman dialogue Ive never seen anywhere else. Id have to watch again to find the exact time.

LV 32270 Major League has a shot of Rick Vaughn in the bar by himself that lasts about 2 seconds that I have never seen on another version.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but I'm noticing what I thought were standard laserdiscs having stuff no longer available like Executive Decision which has scenes now deleted I think due to the current IS situation around the globe. And suddenly my Tom & Jerry box sets are worth their weight in gold due to the ongoing standoff between the fans and Warner.

Cool, I have that. Good to know I watched the most complete version of Major League. My life is now officially better than a Blu Ray user 8-)

Just wondering if some of the titles listed here might make the list.

Every single version of that movie that ever exists will always be terrible. Unless...on 7955 AS did they completely remake the movie sans the dude from Seinfeld, the jokes, the songs, the ending, and all the sequals in this now “series”?
