Looking for thoughts on the best, safest way to clean laserdiscs......
Some of the used ones I've got look like they have bits of food and who knows what stuck to them as well as the normal fingerprints.

I've used rubbing alcohol and a damp cloth to clean the spray off of Discovision dead sides.

I use NOVUS No. 1 - Plastic Clean and Shine.

1. Squirt one or two sprays to a clean well used soft tea shirt.
2. Apply in circular motion to Laserdisc.
3. Buff clean with 3M Auto Detail Cloth.

Note:

*I like using 3M Auto Detail Cloth because it is very soft, grabs dirt (without scratching) and buffs very well.

I have used the little alcohol pads you can get from sam's and I get a good result from them. I buff out what a eyeglass cleaning cloth.

My method is this:
1: Small spray of Windex Surface & Glass Cleaner (Do NOT get any other Windex cleaner as I will ruin the disc) on to a Chux wipe or non-abrasive cloth.
2:Rub slowly in circular motions (Although it may ruin DVD's by rubbing in small circular motions, so far it have had no effect on Laserdisc from what I have done)
3.Clean and dry with a micro-fibre cloth or suede texture cloth.
I use a Sabco Super Microfibre Cloth which is 70% Polyester and 30% Polyamide and I find it works great.

By the way, what kind of rubbing alcohol to you use to remove dead side coatings, ratkins?

I use Novus polish #2 for scratches, but for regular cleaning I now use the Mobile Fidelity Shine Ola (made specially for CD, DVD, and LD) It doesn't have anything in it that will damage the plastic of the disc, and doesn't leave any residue. It also comes with a 3M polishing cloth.

A soft cloth, warm water, and a smidgeon of non-abrasive dish liquid does the trick. I'm too afraid to use rubbing alcohol.

If using rubbing alcohol, make sure that you put it on with a cloth that hasn't had fabric softener used with it. Otherwise you can cause a reaction which will make the surface of the disc cloudy.
