They are all over my living room right now, and I box them up in 50 count boxes. They weight a ton

You need to get some protective sleeves ;)

But insane collection, very impressing! Good luck moving, I moved a couple of years ago with +1500 vinyl LPs - it's a nightmare.

about 1/2 of them are in sleeves. When I move I plan on getting new ones. I was going to but the move came up and I need an address, lol. I need to find decent ones though. The big ones are still sealed in their original plastic so I am ok there

I got the exact same question once when I moved.

Yeah, unfortunately they are about 2x as heavy as a record lol. Anyway, I am going to hire my kid to alphabetize them and put them up on shelves once I get to my new place. It hopefully will look pretty decent.

This goes a bit off-topic but to continue with "too much" theme here's what happened when I cleaned up my tape collection to put all the unneeded stuff for sale...

Wow. That is really a great collection. That would be a pain to move of those. By the way, are your discs ordered? (alphabetical, reference, or not)

They are going to be alphabetized. I know where everything is atm because I have had the in the same order for a while. Regardless, they are all going up into something that I am going to build for the new place.

WOW!!!!!!!!

Now that's impressive!

I hope the move goes well and have you thought about getting the outer reasealabe sleeves for your collection, as they are very reasonably priced.

Just a thought and hope you don't mind me mentioning.

Post some pictures of the new LD racks when your settled in.

Thank you for sharing.

:D

NIce! Try storing them by categorizing them based on year of release. That's what I do. This way it really represents the history of laserdiscs. With big collections (like yours) it's cool to see the evolution of releases. When I say year of release I mean the year the disc was released into the laserdisc market. Seeing all the later releases lined up on a shelf in order just looks good to me.

Wow! That's a big ol mess o' discs!

I try to be a little organized with my collection. I took these a couple years ago when another LD collecting friend of mine asked to see how I organize my collection . . .

. . . I've since had to move the video games out of the top right section to accomodate more Laserdiscs, as well as move the horror Laserdiscs to a new case to accomodate more discs!

I'm probably going to move the box sets out of the top left section to ontop of the case to make more room again!

To be honest I haven't ever been much of an anime fan, there's only dozen or so pretty much random (and common) titles like Akira and such.

Do you mean storage boxes? Dunno, they haven't ever been stored in the warehouse at the same time, I've always kept my tapes either shelved or piled if there haven't been any room left. Nevertheless those ones in the pictures are just leftovers after major collection cleanup, there's still 1000 or so more I decided to keep for now...

That's how I organize mine as well. My friend came over once and asked to see "the room". We then had the High Fidelity conversation; "How are they organized, not alphabetically, not categorically..." "I've organized them by release date of the disc themselves, not the movies." "No Way!"

I have my Criterion discs all on one shelf next to each other organized by Spine Number. I also have most of my big box sets on the same shelf. The rest are alphabetical.

I organise my music laserdiscs alphabetically and then chronologically within the same artist/band. This allows me to find a particular band very quickly, particularly if there are many discs by the same artist and also listen to them in the order they were released thereby showing the progression (or otherwise) of a band over time.

For promo or compilation music LDs they are organised by genre first and then year within those titles allowing me to access a set of related titles and also see how that style of music evolved as the years went by. Organising them by release date/ year alone would not work for me because the heavy metal compilations would be mixed up with pop and likely rap making it torture to find a set of related songs to listen to.

Maybe use a different shelf for music lds, then films on another (if you have the room). That would look cool
