Morning remington, Try storing them by categorizing them based on year of release.

I may do this with my collection as I have'nt done this yet.

I moved into my first home over three and a half years ago, and the main thing that I needed to do after moving in was to get all of my collection into proper storage shelf units.

This has been done and it looks great but, I will have to index them all at some stage either by year or, A to Z.

Thank you for sharing the pictures elahrairrah.

Regards to all

My collection has numbers (1-1200), in process of acquisition. Also has the catalogue in Excel. It is Always easy to find the necessary number.
On the first video are shown pictures of LD

As long as we're showing off our shelves…
Image
My "main stacks". By & large, it's alphabetized by programme title, with related series grouped in order of release, but some of the box sets are stuck in wherever they will fit. Single discs, as well as the opera-type boxes, are put in "4-sort dividers" intended for dinner plates. Boxes which stand on their own are stuck in between the dividers, wherever they fit.

The top right-hand, above the receiver & AC-3 decoder, is mostly duplicates, some of which I have listed for sale on LDDb. I haven't gotten around to dealing with all of them, & some I'd prefer to offer in trade. On the top left you see my "gig bag" (DJ case used for transporting LDs & equipment to showings), as well as a crate of blank Sony 1" broadcast tapes. Beneath the shelf that holds the LD player & digital turntable, at lower right, you can just make out my 20 cm LDs, along with CDs, CDVs, & (oddly enough) a few VHS cassettes.

Image
This is mostly discs I haven't watched yet, or box sets I haven't made my way through yet, except for my Tenchi Muyo LDs at bottom left.

Image
This shelf holds a miscellany of things which don't fit elsewhere. There are test & other non-anime LDs, rotters, & my two Hi-Vision LDs, as well as a few LPs & 78s. And yes, that is the Evangelion movie box.

VERY nice collection there Publius!
You're obviously a man who likes his Anime.
Some quality titles in that lot. Ghibli collection, Perfect Blue, Tenchi Muyou THX box. Great stuff. You live in the States right? Must have cost a pretty penny to import all those Japanese titles.
Anyway thanks for the ace pictures. Impressive stuff

Thanks for posting the pics. No doubt you have a serious and visually arresting collection. I like the carry-all stuff as well.

Hello publius,

Your collection is as I imagined it would be ''VAST CLEAN AND TIDY''
It looks very cozy.

Thank you for sharing these pictures with this site as we all appreciate it.

I shall be posting my collection at some stage, hopefully within the next 12months, after I have carried out more decorating before this happens.

Regards to all

Hey publius,

very cool collection you got there... I see some very hard-to-find boxes like Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion and the famous Ghibli set! And if I'm not mistaken there's also a LAIN box visible on one of the pictures? Found one of those in Japan last year and I really enjoyed the great design of the outer box and single discs inside - great work!

Around 500 discs..... It took me a weekend to arrange them alphabetically, but at least now I can find the movies I am looking for! :)

This is one of my LD cabinets which houses over 2000 music laserdiscs.
It was custom built to my specification in solid oak to fit in one of the recesses to the right of the fireplace in my lounge.
The other recess is used for the hi-fi/laserdisc player/ TV etc.

Due to the total weight and height of the cabinet it was constructed in two sections otherwise it would not have been possible to get this into the room or lift it!
The middle is almost 3 inches thick so it is very strong. In addition all of the oak shelves use traditional carpenter techniques of cross joining timber grains for added horizontal strength.

Discs are all stored in polylined sleeves and the doors on most of the sections keep everything protected from dust and light.
The middle section was deliberately left open so it would be adaptable for display purposes if required in the future as I didn't want it to look too closed.
The laserdiscs are sorted from top to bottom and left to right alphabetically.

Laserdisc Fan- I will say it is nice. Of course the cabinet maker in me has critiqued it to death <shhhh>
I've worked in a custom shop for 16yrs now, mainly as the finisher. I do build quite a few things on the side though.
Yes I have designs for the 1 wall, right now it's just a few shelves and boxes- nothing impressive <yet> :)

these cabinets were in the junker pile a few years back, I took them and modified them a bit. Temporary things... ya 5 years or so now

Hello laserdisc_fan, alchemy541.

Thank you for sharing pictures of both your collections with this site.
It's great to see this and shows how many of us there are, who take great care of things.

I have most of my collection housed in wooden units in a recess between the bedroom & main living room floor to ceiling,
I have yet to label them up in some sort of A to Z order.

The rest of my collection is stored in my cloak room.

Oak is a lovely hard wood of which I have myself.
Hopefully I shall be purchasing a Solid Oak study dest next year followed by two equally solid Oak book shelves.

My first Priority is to finish paying for my Oak equipment support stands from ''HiFi Racks'' and then, I shall be able to get to work at decorating my bedroom and turning this into a study.

Thank you again both very inspiring indeed.

Sincere Regards to all

Good day invenio,

Efficient use of space I like it

The unique thing about all of the members on this site, is that we all come from various backgrounds and circumstances but, the unifying subject we all have in common is Laserdisc.

Thank you for sharing the pictures of your collection with us.

I have changed the way I sort my discs several times. I have a software program that allows me to set the discs into one of twelve different libraries. I typically sort them by library, and then alphabetically within that library. For example, all 8" discs are in one library and are sorted alphabetically by artist / title.

For DiscoVision titles, all are sorted by catalog number, ignoring any letters.

Right now, I've grouped everything together alphabetically except for DiscoVision, 8", Educational software and box sets that are too large for my shelves (Fantasia, Speed Racer, Dances with Wolves).
