Generally the term refers to a cheap processing amplifier. You can use it to manipulate the video signal to some degree, changing contrast, chroma level, or what have you. They were mostly used to make VHS tapes more watchable, & shouldn't be much use with LD. The better ones regenerated sync, making it more stable, & incidentally stripping out Macrovision — again, neither of these is an issue with LD.

I have a "Video Enhancer." It's a Faroudja VP-100. Basically it's an external 2D comb filter.

I bought it on a whim when I saw an ad for it on craigslist selling it cheaply. I haven't played with it much, so I'm thinking of selling it again.

From the way it says "Video Enhancer Color Corrector Pack", & the form factor, I'd guess that it was one of the more obscure CLD-A100 accessories, maybe intended to make some kind of video game look better.

Couldn't tell you. That's just a review of the hardware that I've checked out before.

I'm pretty sure it is. Spears used to work for them and I think Stacey Spears is a Mr., not a Ms. (despite the name Stacey).

My apologies if said parties are reading this...in the UK "Stacey" is perceived as more of a feminine name. But then we also have Lesley and Leslie which are the (respectively) female and male versions of that particular name, so what do we know?

I'm curious about this Pioneer unit SD-E5, I never saw one before.

I use the DVDO units, they are really superb and I foind them as good as Faroudja and easier to use. I also like the Hitachi AVC08U, especiallyin situations where you have one video input only on your LCD/LED/Plaasma set. Doesn't really change resolution much but gets rid of scan lines, dot crawl and jaggies, and gives you a full choice of aspect ratios on an HD HDMI input that most sets don't allow.
