In connecting my Laserdisc player to my later generation AV receiver (Pioneer SC-LX904) via a composite input, does anyone happen to know if this model up scales the video from 480i to 1080P when it outputs via its HDMI port to my display (Pioneer Kuro Plasma 1080P)?

The receiver’s manual and the setup menu only show an option to upscale from 1080P to 4K with compatible display. Since my display is 1080P I have this option disabled in the menu.

Also, in comparing the difference between picture from composite output through receiver vs. directly to the Kuro display, the direct connection seems brighter but a lot less sharp. Interested to understand what might account for the differences. Many thanks!
