Mine was the box set of Disney's Fantasia, which I bought new. And crazy as it seems now, I bought it, then later the Pinocchio box set, before I had a player. I think it was another year before I got my first player.

My first LD purchase was Beverly Hills Cop II; I bought it along with my new Pioneer CLD-1091, back in 1992. There wasn't much available for me to buy back then. The only place that sold LaserDiscs was the stereo store where I bought the player, and they didn't have much of a selection. So, I thought that Beverly Hills Cop II was a good choice, because it had some action and a good sound track; something that I could appreciate with my new player.

I watched that movie over and over and over again, as it was my only disc for quite a while. But it looked so good and sounded fantastic, hooked up to the stereo. I had a blast with the shuttle dial, direct accessing chapters, and all that stuff I couldn't do with my VCR. Lots of good memories.

I still have the disc in my collection:

The first laserdisc I bought: The Raccoons Collection. A week or so later, I bought the CLD-D505.

The reason I did was that I wanted to see how superb the quality was for "The Raccoons: Let's Dance!" and "The Raccoons and the Lost Star". And it was...sort of. 'Cuz like I said, my copy has some laser rot, mostly on side 2, but still watchable nonetheless.

See, I've been digitizing LD's for posterity with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD Plus.

That's the only Raccoons LD in North America, as far as I know. One of my favorite Canadian cartoons.

Someone posted a new thread about this and then someone linked back to this. So may as well put mine on here. I got 5 discs with my player. But the first LD I bought seperately was the 1991 Japanese version of New Hope.

Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) [PILF-1236]

Posted this in another thread.

Joined Columbia House LaserDisc club.
My FIRST laserdisc came as a group in a bulk mailer.
- congo
- a clockwork orange
- braveheart
- JURASSIC PARK
- rob roy
My memory fades a tad, however I think we chose six and that was the ones I recall.
Cannot think of the sixth one.

Started a serious journey with the laserdisc club.
Very thankful to score some Roan Group classics that were offered as monthly special club options.

Fantastic Planet was one score I highly revere.

Cheers

Tie between Criterion Taxi Driver CAV, which I had to order from Tewksbury, and Apocalypse Now WS, which I went out and bought in a Camelot records in 1993. Followed quickly by Jaws, Criterion CLV Goldfinger, and A Clockwork Orange.

First memory watching a LD was on my oldest brothers set up who had a prologic 5.1 kenwood stage and we watched Toy Story
Clearly remembering the pizza delivery scene when the sound moved left to right or vise versa behind me and thinking this media is awesome and so is my brother. Then him explaining how he was going to get a AC-3 decoder so the sound would be even better which i didnt get my head around at the time.
Will always remember that, our mother saying 'movies on a record!' Also
