I would like to know the best way to ship LD's. I was getting packages from a seller and he was shipping the LD's in the sleeve but my last package from the seller had the laserdiscs out of the jackets. So could you tell me the best way to ship LD's. Also the best packaging materials.

Sturdy cardboard boxes.
There are some made for (most likely) shipping vinyl, they fit perfectly.
Some bubblewrap for stuffing the inside, and you're done.

Good day randomtvandmovie,

Julien, Nicholas and Da' Dons; when all three of these kind and thorough Gentlemen shipped Laserdisc's to myself they always used the following packing materials;

1) High grade sturdy cardboard boxes.
2) Between every three LD's they place a thin layer of good card or equivalent dense foam.
3) And then around the 12+ titles a double layer of small bubble wrap.
4) Heavily but well wrapped with wide brown tape

These guys take packaging very seriously and rightly so.

Many Thanks

Greetings randomtvandmovie,
There are several prudent Forum threads that address this in detail.
Surf around a bit and you will discover them.
Can not recall exact titles of the threads but there are a few.
Apologies for not offering a link to each one !

Thanks, I could not find any on the first page. Many forums usually have a rule where you don't bump posts that aren't on the first page. Does that apply to this forum?

Not exactly sure on that score...
One of the threads is called " I swear to the laserdisc God,nobs should not pack laserdiscs ".
Contributed my process for packaging and quite a few others throw in their hats as well.
Hope this helps out !

I still swear to someone Nobs shouldnt pack discs. Just got a beautiful copy of Betty Pages disc in the mail with no protection in an LD mailer - They have 2 different levels - at 1/2 inch and at 1 inch. I always pack to 1 inch. This was just shoved in the mailer. I got it ok but it was a tense minute as I opened the package. I will have to take a pic of my mailing process for 1 disc. Also, it depends on my mood on whether or not I take the disc out as I hate damaging the jacket. If I am being overly paranoid, as I am about to be on 2 40 dollar discs. It goes like this. Starting from the middle -
Cardboard
Cardboard
1 Bubble Wrap
Disc
1 Bubble Wrap
Cardboard
1 Bubble Wrap
Disc
Bubble Wrap
Cardboard
Cardboard

Outter Mailer
Another Cardboard outside the mailer.

This will cost me 3.50 to send media as it is under 3 lbs. I get the mailers for 20 cents each and the bubblewrap and cardboard are negligable.

The only way that is going to get damaged is if the PO runs over it, and anything that leaves the country or is over 50 bucks I insure. It is 79 cents in insurance and I am still up on it as the PO has destroyed 1 50 dollar disc, and has lost 1 100 dollar toy.

I remember getting a record in the mail a couple years ago, that had a black tire track right across the cadboard mailer but the record was ok. So yep....the PO does sometimes drive over packages. Most likely by accident, and probably a forklift truck, but it can happen.

Records are more flexible, so I'm not sure how a LD would survive.

Ive had a couble of things driven over. Some have survived and some havent. It is a roll of the dice and whether or not the gods are smiling on you that do as to whether or not the item makes it.

Oh that one. I think it might be easier in a rephrased question like this. ;)

Depends on the packaging. Packaging peanuts, as we probably know, don't do that great with LD's. Mostly because they are free to move thus allowing all the peanuts to go to one side leaving one side unprotected. If that got driven over, I'd say that there would be no chance of the package surviving. Thankfully most sellers don't ship with peanuts but I've had one or two. Mostly people who are selling who don't know that much at all about LD's or just one-off sellers.
My hope is that this LaserDisc forum and it's posts may give a personal insight to one-off sellers who are selling 'Discs so that our online buying experence is vastly improved. :D
