Have been reading the recent biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.
Got to page 155 and what do you know - Steve owned a laserdisc player!

Apparently he had such exacting standards with regard to furniture that he had not got round to actually purchasing much for his house other than a lamp shade and a laserdisc player wired to a Sony trinitron. At least he had taste!!

According to the following article Steve Jobs also demonstrated the latest video capabilities of NeXT computers via a laserdisc player!!

http://lowendmac.com/orchard/06/steve-j ... years.html

It mentions the following:

There was a typically Jobsian introduction for the NeXTstation. During a highly choreographed September 1991 press conference, Jobs' staff had licensed the scene from Wizard of Oz where the black and white world of Kansas transforms into the colorful Oz. The scene played, and it stunned the audience. Nobody had ever seen full color, high resolution video on what was basically a high-end personal computer. The demonstration was something of a fraud, however, since the video didn't actually play on the computer. NeXT engineers had connected the machine to a LaserDisc player and simply used the NeXTstation as a display.

Poor old laserdisc nevers get any credit for anything!!

I always like hearing about celebrities and their experiences with Laserdiscs or their being a collector of the medium.

Here's a few that I dug up from my old blog that I posted about (after reading about them in articles which a few aren't available on the web anymore):

Michael Jackson (as recalled by a writer on hitfix.com)
Quote:
Working in Los Angeles for the last 19 years, I've had a variety of different jobs. One of the ones I enjoyed the most was at a place called Dave's Video in Sherman Oaks. It was a laserdisc only store, and I started there in 1991, when laserdisc was a niche market, mainly for wealthy film nerds and industry folks.

I met a lot of people in the business when I was working at that store, but one in particular stood out. Michael Jackson would call us before we closed and tell us he was coming in just after closing. We would wait for a few minutes after we locked up and, sure enough, Michael would pull up in his van and come in. We'd relock the doors and then just let him shop for as long as he wanted. He would typically take an hour or two and browse the racks, buying $1000 or more worth of discs each time.

Rest of the article is here

Jamie Silva - Safety for the Indianapolis Colts (from an article on Indy Star website talking about his dumpster diving hobby)
Quote:
Silva's biggest find was a collection of more than 500 laserdisc movies. Many were unopened, with price tags ranging from $39 to $49. He had an offer of $8 apiece, which would have meant a payday in excess of $4,000. He refused; he wanted to watch the movies.

Article is no longer available though.

There was an online article about Les Dennis - the english comedian /TV presenter with regard to his home cinema setup which he got constructed in his basement.
The thing that caught my eye at the time and also the reviewer was he still had a laserdisc player in his setup - from memory it was a Pioneer CLD-D925 player.
He mentioned he didn't buy laserdiscs anymore however he still enjoyed watching the discs in his collection.

Quentin Tarantino was a big fan of laserdiscs.....

http://www.boreme.com/posting.php?id=5892

He was quoted on collecting movies: "If you're a film fan, collecting video is sort of like marijuana. Laser discs, they're definitely cocaine. Film prints are heroin, all right? You're shooting smack when you start collecting film prints. So, I kinda got into it in a big way, and I've got a pretty nice collection I'm real proud of."
