Just bought an Elite CLD-95 player and it works great. One problem though, the remote needs some care and is not working right now. I have an older Pioneer remote that works fine but it doesn't have a digital sound button and there doesn't seem to be a button on the machine. Is there a way to control the sound without the remote? Any help or comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

Does the older remote have any sort of sound button that allows a toggle through the R-L channels, and maybe it will toggle to the digital sound options? Or if not, get a newer model remote with the sound options buttons, but it doesn't have to be an expensive, fancy one, or how about this one:

It's pretty nice and would do everything your Elite needs to do! You'd need to snipe it to get the best price, IMO. Let us know so we don't bid against you.

The 95 was a better player than the vaunted LD-S2, with a better digital TBC and flatter frequency response out to 425 lines. Its only drawback was Pioneer didn't do as good QC as they did on the S2 so player-to-player variations were common. It had much better tracking than most players of the era which could be seen on CLV discs - when still stepping CLV discs, less of the previous frame could be seen interfering in the current frame. It also output Closed Captions correctly, which the S2 didn't always do. Joe Kane started using the 95 as his reference player when he discovered how much better than the LD-S2 it was. Don't use the s-video output though... The comb filter in the 95 wasn't that great and you'll get much better performance using the composite output with a more modern 3D comb filter. One caution; The side changing mechanism on the 95 broke down quite easily, so treat it as a single sided player and you'll get longer life from it.

Wasn't the 95 one of Pioneers players that used a dual-function digital/CX button on the remote? Any of the remotes with jog shuttle from that era should work, including the remote for the LD-W1.

Good to know. I'll bid on the remote. On analogue only discs the left & right RCA hookup is fine, I'm having trouble hooking up the digital sound though. I tried hooking up the optical and still nothing. I've never had a player that has multiple sound ports including AC-3. Do I need a demodulator for non-AC-3 discs?

Give me a call and we can get the hook up for your system figured out.

Surely this discussion belongs in the Players area.

No. only for AC3 discs through the AC3 output. There won't be any digital sound on analog sound only discs. Make sure your optical output shows light when playing a disc with digital sound. Also check your receiver or to wherever you have it input to be sure it's on the right sound channel.

Looks like you got the remote.

Yes I did. Were you the other bidder? I ask because it looks like I wont be needing it now. Apparently the internal A to D converter is not working. I have a guy who repairs most of my equipment but he says he cannot fix it. I don't want to spend to spend much more money so I may be taking it back to the guy who sold it to me. Thanks everyone for all your help.

I also apologize for not asking the question in the correct thread. I was very frustrated when I posted and did it a bit too quickly.

Thanks again,

Ron

No, it wasn't me, but that remote is worth the price. If the D/A converter isn't working, then that means you can't get the digital sound out of the RCA outputs, but still should get digital sound out of the optical output.

But how would you know for sure it's not working without the remote to choose the sound options?
