This is all very interesting to me. Before the internet became super popular I never knew anything about dead sides.

The closest thing in my collection is the Cinemadisc version of High and Low, the fourth side of which seems to have just been spray-painted white, nothing at all like this.

The mirror side looks so much better than glue spray...

My CAV Discovision Laserdisc of American Graffiti has Side 2 of The Sting on it's dead side.

This is one of the known ones indeed: http://www.blam1.com/discovision/Universal_Pictures/16-001CAV.htm

As another example, this is what my copy of "Alien" on the Magnetic Video label looks like (it was also manufactured by DiscoVision)

Mine is just as bad! Front/Back side collage to highlight the differences.

That's what one of my copies of Kidisc looks like. Both sides though. Plays perfect though.

You can use rubbing alcohol (80% is best) to loosen the coating. It's easiest to do it in sections - 1/3 of the disc at a time. Keep the alcohol from the edge as it will seep into the bond between the disc halves and erode the aluminum.

Isn't all rubbing alcohol for home use 70%? Are you saying I have to reject that and somehow find 80% which I've never seen on earth? I HAVE discovered 99.9% isopropyl, which is obviously too different and for another purpose.

No, they used to have different % but unknown now what is offered.
How many discovisions do you even have???
You can even use denatured alcohol, I've posted that before but don't know which topic.

While its cool to find dead sides I've never had any luck making money off of it just a lot of working and elbow grease.
Have fun.
