Hi folks,

Just curious (or perhaps a bit nosy) regarding TOEMI / Toshiba EMI Japanese releases.

As not many more than just over 300 releases are listed here as issued in Japan by Toshiba EMI & them (apparently) pressing the discs themselves at their own pressing plant was it really financially viable in the end given the initial plant set up costs would be fairly substantial - they also look to have pressed many of the released titles in quite low numbers so the total number of discs manufactured overall would surely be but a fraction of the numbers produced at the other major manufacturing plants.

The Toshiba EMI mint-marks are quite distinctive & I don't think they pressed for anyone else (appearing not to do "jobbing" or commissioned work???) & look to have been manufacturing from 1988 to '98 but reliable information does seem to be hard to find unless I am looking in the wrong places, can't even find details on the plants location & if it was a multiple product facility or an LD manufacturing exclusively site given they were issuing VHS videos - vinyl discs - compact cassettes - CDs - LDs & also hardware but I could not find much info on the manufacturing side at all.

If they did their own manufacturing did they also do the transfer & mastering work required as well, does anyone here know or be able to point me in the right direction?

Even given that there are probably quite a few TOEMI / Toshiba EMI releases still to be found & updated to the site it still does look to be not a huge total number of laserdiscs manufactured by them over the years active given that many of the titles issued were pretty niche music titles, no six figure pressing "blockbuster" type titles released by them unless I have missed something.

They did appear to issue good reliable LDs as any I have had or still have all played with no issues at all (no rot or the like) although the image quality on some titles was a bit soft but given the source material used that would be expected though to be fair.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers
