Mah boi! Those are CD-I games!

Shame the seller won't sell Zelda or Mario.

As for the last LD I bought, it was Far and Away [41415] for $2.50 at my local thrift shop. For a film shot in 70mm film, the transfer was underwhelming.

I certainly count CDV-Singles & VSDs among my LaserDiscs. They play in LD players & are formatted according to the LD standard. They aren't anything else!

At least it was the first Laserdisc that the postman could simply throw into my mailbox without having to ring my bell. hehe

Anyway I was pleasently surprised that the video track was almost 100% OK. Most people write that in many cases the video tracks on PAL
CDVs are no longer playable. I am really happy with this purchase. The video and audio quality are superb in my opinion.

I actually used to own a lot of CD-i stuff back in the 90s. I sold most of it but I still own some Video CDs manufactured by Philips for the
German market. And I also have a so-called CD-i Video disc ( Black Rain ). It is almost the same as a Video CD yet the resolution is a little
bit higher and it can only be played on a CD-i player as it is basically a CD-i disc with video.

The last LaserDisc I bought was the MCA DiscoVision Open-Top Box version of Elton John in Eidenberg, which is a fantastic show that's never been released on any other format or had a rerelease on LaserDisc. The only drawback to it is that its mono. Since it was sourced from a 16mm print, I have to assume that no stereo version is available.

Actually a PAL test disc by Pioneer can also still be purchased by Pioneer's official spare parts partner:

Is it worth getting such a test disc ?

I can't recall if I posted about it or not but I recently got We're All Devo and David Bowie's Jazzin' For Blue Jean LD's. Devo was a title that got hit hard by rot and was recalled and Pioneer never rereleased it, so it is a disc I'd looked for for years, even going so far as to buy the CED VideoDisc version - and I also own the Beta Hi-Fi release. Luckily, the copy I got on LaserDisc is pristine with nary a dropout to be seen - Duff's Flix is great for titles like that.

Although its not marked anywhere on the jacket, Jazzin' for Blue Jean is Dolby Surround encoded - its end credits do contain the Dolby Stereo logo - Pioneer never used it in demo's of their surround decoders but Shure always listed it in their brochures for their HTS Acra-Vector surround decoders and used clips from it on one of their demo Super High-Band Beta-Is Hi-Fi tapes.

thanks. I wish I knew about this before I placed an order for power cord (BDP-51FD) and a remote (VSX-454). I'll keep it mind when I order some other stuff. Hopefully it will last that long whenever I do my next order.
