Bought a Pioneer CLD-1010 on craigslist about six months ago, and I figured I should finally get some discs for it and consider starting this collection. So I took some books and CDs down to the used book store and traded for some LDs (and some VHS tapes). Nothing fancy, but one has to begin somewhere. LOL

those are nice. I'm guessing they only came out in Japan? I wish the US would get cool docs like the Star Trek ones other than the 25TH Anniversary special (I had that one on tape wished I still had it..might get the LD)

there is also star trek real story. it does not contain any cast members. its strictly TOS crew members(production crew) which makes it different but less interesting I guess.

One of the thrift stores in Goleta got a stash of LD's in the back (check craigslist) - I snagged the Discovision disks (mostly non-feature, and a copy of Saturday Night Fever), a DTS disk, and Christopher Columbus: The Discovery. (not just because of the irony of buying it on Columbus Day - it was a WEA pressing and I've been having difficulty finding any of those...)

My local record store had the original open matte Little Mermaid CAV for $5.

The store in town finally replenished the bins: $2 each.
Cool Hand Luke WS
The Wild Bunch Director's Cut WS
Bullets or Ballots/Brother Orchid double feature
Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero WS
Hang Em High widescreen
Dances With Wolves theatrical widescreen

and...the uncut, uncensored Bad Lieutenant with original soundtrack!!!

Found a decent collection at Half Price Books. Strange in that it had many duplicate titles that weren't common.

Picked out some nice DiscoVision titles and most of the rock/pop music discs. They also had LOTS of opera, which I just don't have time for anymore.

Sentinel: The West Face (DiscoVision 86-014)
Loretta (DiscoVision 74-004)
Fellini's Casanova (DiscoVision 15-004)

Thrift store had the Star Wars trilogy in those Technidisc versions, with Apocalypse Now as a freebie with any purchase.

In the same buy I nabbed a crisp 1001 PlayStation with a bunch of goodies. Plays games flawlessly. Everything is really early with no wear, so fingers crossed for a long life.

Never seen this one before, was not in LDDB either (meanwhile added http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/submit/52123/VLP2173E/Mijn-Vriend-(1979)), bought is new sealed, always nice to open the package 29 years after the production ....

it is part of 6 discs from director Fons Rademakers, it's a dutch/belgian release based on a true story

To make sure I do not hurt anyone, I rated the back cover

Picture and sound quality are very good for this August 1984 release, never re-released.

It indeed is a PDO UK release, with the reputation to be one of the factories releasing the highest amount of discs with defects.
Their pressing quality really varies from good to un-playable (from their LaserVision till LaserDisc period which is from 1982 till 1995)

I would rate the pressing quality as an 7,5 for a PDO UK disc (some very light interference at the beginning at each side, after that fully ok) have seen much worse.

The biggest problem for PDO UK is the batch quality, from one title you can have a batch that is good, but another batch can be unwatchable.
There have been many discussions about the reason (not working in a low-dust closed environment etc),

I would be alarmed when it would say "Made In Germany" as this was made by Sonopress, which has even a worse reputation for LaserVision's, where the quality is or reasonable or very very bad, with the majority of the discs in the later part.

Under normal circumstances I never buy LaserVision PAL discs, only got once a "complete" batch of musics discs in perfect quality and 2 batches of sealed music discs for almost nothing (~50 eurocents a disc, which as a music collector I do not withstand, as I can cherry pick the best quality discs and throw the remainder out of the window ), this sealed title came out the last batch.
