Managed to buy this sealed for a decent price. I hope it doesn't get squeezed in the mail.

Or paying a tremendous amount to the government they call import taxes
Hopefully a safe trip, nice finding

Holy...a sealed Criterion CAV Lolita...been wanting one for ages. Definitely open it to check the discs. Sealed LD isn't exactly like sealed LPs as you never know what the discs will be like inside and it really doesn't hurt the value AFAIC. You can always leave the shrinkwrap on.

The last laserdiscs I bought are 7 karaoke laser discs on my vacation to Singapore, just about a week ago. The name of the laser discs are Top Hit Chinese Old Songs and Top Hits Chinese Songs. They are in CLV and NTSC format. Quite cheap, SGD$3 for each. I want to find more of these, though.

Finally got my hand on a negotiated bundle:

Wanted the "cold water fish" LD to complete my "hot water fish" one: Okinawa Underwater (1992) [00MW-0001]

RRTI because it's one of the first I ever bought and sold on eBay because I couldn't play Hi-Vision at that time (no X9, no MUSE decoder). I'm rectifying an old mistake!

got a nonbroken copy of A-ha... I framed the jacket of the first one because it cost a lot and the disc was broken so now I am happy to have a working replacement.

I just received a copy of Cliffhanger (1993) [PILF-2188] in the post. It's my first squeeze laserdisc so I'm looking forward to sitting down to watch it. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to do that until next week some time but I gave it a quick spin to check it out and it looks great.

I love the visual description of anamorphic widescreen on the back of the obi.

I haven't seen all the squeeze discs of course, but the ones I have seen all have a lot of EE on them. Its interesting to compare them to their MUSE equivalents, because they were pretty much all made from the Hi-Vision master meant for MUSE LaserDisc release. Some, like Basic Instinct, are hard to tell apart while others are obviously inferior to the MUSE version.

I've only watched the opening and first scene of Cliffhanger, it's a very clear picture but I can see a bit of edge enhancement in some shots, mainly the ones of Sly hanging from the mountain and there's a bit of ringing around his body silhouetted against the sky. If you want I can take a few pictures when I get the chance.

Squeezed versions are indeed very good although they all exhibit heavy edge enhancement. I am split though as squeezed versions have dolby digital 5.1 audio vs muse has 3+1 at best which I cant utilize. Muse discs of cliffhanger and stargate are vastly superior but it is close call on terminator 2 as the squeezed discs are the best ld ever offered.

I would like the get basic instinct on squeezed ld.

Why can't you use the 3/1 tracks on the MUSE discs?

One thing about A-Mode 3/1 DANCE encoded soundtracks on MUSE discs is that it's only 12-bit (or is it 13-bit?) and its sample rate is 32kHz, giving it a frequency response limit of 15kHz. AC-3's sound quality is vastly superior technically and audibly.

One thing about the squeeze discs is they don't have much aliasing in the picture. Although its irritating, with good deinterlacing that aliasing can be turned into more vertical resolution. It's kind of like vertical detail has been stored on the disc as aliasing.

Post subject:  Re: What was the last laserdisc you bought?

I have my equipment split into two separate cabinets due to their high quantity. One cabinet in the front of the room which keeps power amps, sound processor, bd and hd players. Another cabinet in the back of the room behind the seats which has all other sources including muse player and decoder. An algolith mosquito hdmi and crystalio 2 vps 3800 process video to 1080p and also act as hub so I only have 1 long hdmi cable concealed in wall running to my display in the front.

I have no way to feed multich analog muse outputs into crystalio 3. I dont want to run 40ft of audio cables to my sound processor which has multich input. I want to figure out a way to feed 2 digital coax from muse decoder into a 4ch pcm output via hdmi but so far havent had the time. Its probably not practically possible.

I've got the first Terminator 2 squeeze and it not only has EE/halos but all the colors are smoothed over and look terrible in motion. Textures are realitvely tight but I much rather go for a letterboxed edition. DTS Experience, on the other hand, is easily one of the best looking LDs I've ever seen. You can clearly see the superiority of the anamorphic video on that one.

My favorite noir, the best leading tough guy ever on-screen, and the best first person dialogue ever in a film.
