If you want to save money, buy a plane ticket to Japan. I have seen at least a dozen shops in Osaka selling LDs for
very little money ( 100 Yen a disc upwards ), even whole beautiful box sets were sold for very reasonable prices.
The only problem is the transportation of course :( Transporting LDs on a plane sucks.

Dozen? Doubt that. When where you there? Maybe 2 that got movies in central osaka. And one is expensive. But anyway, how is it going to save you money? I agree if you find 100 movies that you actually want and would have bought anyway. But i find it more true to find maybe 10-30 titles.

I was there last summer. Maybe I did not find a dozen but I did find 8,9 shops easily with LDs in and around Namba. And it was cheap, at least in
my opinion. My Star Trek Insurrection LD in mint condition cost me 500 Yen. That is cheap in my opinion.

Had this on the watch for 7 or so months and brought "Great Expectations" (1998) late of last week and arrived this week.

Great Expectations (1998) [0449285]

Not bad I rather liked from academy award winner director (Alfonso Cuarón) Gravity (2013) the story may not be everyone's cup of tea.

The picture was okay with a little 1080p upscale.

The Dolby AC-3 digital starting off with Dolby "short train" the film had an immersive sound with seagulls flying around and hard to shake of the GRAVITY sense of the films sound design and services by Skywalker Sound, mixed by Michael Minkler and Christian P. Minkler.

I have one more laserdisc still in transit and the ALIENS should be landing at "Hangar 18" soon...

Been after this one for a while and brought last month "Freebie and the Bean" (1974)

Freebie and the Bean (1974) [11237]

Image

Picture was okay with 1080p upscale and seeing the film first time in the 2.35:1 since I first saw it on tv and recoded it at my aunties on VHS around 1980 and played it for weeks.

The mono mix was great often very loud during car chases or gun shootouts in toilets.

It's been several months since I picked up one, but I bought the Jurassic Park CAV release today. Wasn't going to pay for the Blu-ray bundle since I really don't care for TLW or III. I'd have sprung for the DTS version but I don't have a DTS receiver, so...

That brings me up to a whole sixteen movies. :) But I have a lot of good ones.

I just ordered these - they haven't got here yet:

1) The Highest Honor
2) The Bedroom Window
3) White Heat
4) The Wizard of Oz (animated)
5) Another copy of the above
6) Silent Movie
7) Tokyo Pop
8) The Great McGinty
9) Highpoint
10) Far Out Man
11) The Assassin
12) My Mom's a Werewolf

Nothing super great (The Wizard of Oz's are probably the most desirable) but I only paid about $4 each (including shipping) for the lot.

When I was visiting the local record store on Record Store Day, I discovered they actually had a handful of Laserdiscs at the very back. I grabbed these for $5 -- not each, but for the whole bundle.

Image

That copy of Pulp Fiction is a Japanese import, by the way. No obi, but letterboxed.

Image

The store manager, a friend of mine for a while, seemed to have no idea they carried them.

"Are those ****ing LaserDiscs?"
"Yeah."
"You want these?"
"Yeah, I collect them!"

Might be why I got such a deal

Was after the full collection for Bubblegum Crisis and Crash(U.S., AnimEigo, Sub'd) and ended up with the Star Wars Collectors Edition box set, as a gift for the wife, my Star Wars fan. I can't honestly say I'm not going to enjoy it aswell. Will post a pic upon arival.

i was lucky to get the entirety of BGC in an excellent collection of 50-odd Anime LDs and a CLD-S104 off of my local CL some years ago for around $80.00USD.

all i need left is CRASH, but i suppose that those are much harder and expensive to come by?

The guy who sold them to me is selling off a large collection pretty cheaply by UK standards - link to his ad is below:

Unusually for Gumtree, he appears to be ready to do mail order (at least in the UK). While I didn't actually count his disks, he's definitely got several hundred - I saw them - and all of the ones I bought are in reasonable used quality, ranging from ex-rental to very good.

I was at Chiller Theatre Horror Convention over the weekend. There were a few vendors with some Laserdiscs. One had Song of the South (but with no obi) asking $100 for it. I nearly bought it, but decided against it.

I'm now sort of regretting that decision . . . but then again, I've seen it sell for less on Ebay!

Song of the south without obi isn't worth $100, more like $60 shipped

I most honestly do not understand why people are so obsessed with obis. I admit: It is a nice feature but I do not understand
why some people will not buy an item simply because of a missing obi. I never cared about it but that's just me.
