This arrived earlier in the week, my first one! Attachment:

Plus a muse decoder at the same time. Got it for a good price - was being sold as 'junk' although the description said this was because they didn't have the equipment needed to test its proper operation, but that it powered up ok - so I took a punt. I'd been kind of telling myself it probably didn't work to avoid disappointment. So it was with anxiety and excitement I got it hooked up, it powered up ok, as the player spun up the disc for the first time and "Hi-vision Laserdisc" came up on the on-screen display things were looking real good, and then I don't think I've ever been happier to see a Panasonic logo come up on the screen as the disc began to play!!

I drove to California to see Foo Fighters a few weeks ago and made a stop in San Francisco. Had to check out Amoeba Music, of course. In addition to the CDs and records I grabbed, I grabbed these LaserDiscs spur-of-the-moment! Happy to be able to add the first AC-3 LD and first widescreen LD to my collection! Landmark titles and firsts like those are especially interesting to me.

Which model did you get?

virtualvcr wrote: Totally forgot about this package, but my Mazinger Z boxset came in today. It's the first third of the show. PQ looks excellent on my 703. Each disc comes in its own cover, like most Japanese boxsets. The cool thing about this set is that each sleeve has its on unique artwork on the front and each side label uses a still from the show. Never seen that before.
Also, if anyone can read Kanji, could you help me translate something? The first few sides use Multi-Audio to play the show's music soundtrack. I think the box / booklet does describe it in better detail, but I can't read Kanji. I could have a look.

One of the switches on the back was set for connection to that particular JVC TV too. Don't know if that would have affected its operation for LD but without your guide I'd have a real hard time working out what those were for.

I'm glad my guide was helpful to you, & that you were able to obtain a working decoder.

It is a good transfer considering it is in NTSC. If there was a PAL version it'd be on my "get if I ever have a PAL player" list, since it would be the closest release to the original master tapes possible. *sniff* A CAV box set would have been perfect. 3 discs, 1 episode per side. All six episodes are less than 36 minutes each.
