Nice find. I was disappointed with PAL+ as it didn't work with my PAL decoder. On a regular PAL decoder, you get letterboxed image like any other ordinary LD. There is another version of this PAL+ title which has a DTS soundtrack.

Maybe read this as it mentions some tech snags with it.

Yea, good read. I figured a multisystem decoder from 2014 would have it. I still have the showgirls disc. I guess some older sets in Europe and some specific PAL+ decoder has it.

it's OK, PALplus broadcast is dead long ago and there is only 3 super rare LD. NTSC SQZ discs work on regular equipment and look pretty good.

I remember PALplus broadcasts. In the UK Channel 4 broadcasted in PALplus before digital in the 90s. They were analogue widescreen broadcasts which needed a widescreen tv to display it correctly or otherwise it was a streched 4:3 image making everything tall and thin.

found this at my local GOODWILL for $1.99. never actually seen the film,
and honestly don't have more than a passing interest in watching it, but in any case i figured i'd go ahead and pad my LD collection a little.

i mean, it IS just about the earliest LD release i've owned yet...

Got my self some LDs today!

Platoon (1986) [LDT-11107]
For a Few Dollars More (1965) (Uncut) [NJL-52226]
Whitesnake: Live! (1983) [TOLW-3061]
Classmates 1 (1994) [JSLA-52401]
Classmates 2 (1994) [JSLA-52402]
Classmates 3: End of Summer (1994) [JSLA-52587]
Urusei Yatsura: Kankentsu-hen (1988) [G100F5057]
Urusei Yatsura: OVA Nagisa no fiance [G58F5065]
Urusei Yatsura: OVA Denki jikake no Oniwaban [G55F5072]
Urusei Yatsura: OVA Tsuki ni hoeru (1989) [G55F5073]

The ones called Classmates turned out to be cartoon pornography. A small comfort is that each disc included a nice (non explicit) animation cell. Nice touch! Guess the discs themselves are only good for paperweights.

My latest batch at a price I couldn't pass up ($18.00). It provides me with affordable entertainment on movies I may have never watched and would probably never purchase on other formats (I did purchase Lawrence Of Arabia and Lethal Weapon on Blu-ray). The bonus is that it exposes my oldest child to a wide range of classic stars and movies that many children his age (14) just don't watch.

I did a quick preview of it and it seems familiar but I don't think I've ever watched it. It does look good and will probably be one of the next ones I watch. I started Key Largo last night and really liked it. Need to watch side 2 tonight.

Did get another small batch today.

This lot I wanted for a couple reasons. Most I haven't seen or owned with the exception being Dragon Fist. Have the Columbia/Tristar 07171 release on DVD and wanted to compare the two so bought the lot for $7.06 US with free shipping.

My setup is no where near to what others have on here (it works fine for my 47 year old eyes plus I use technology until it dies on me) so excuse the quality of my pictures but wanted to show these for comparison (tried to get them as close to the same size as possible).

Philips 27" CRT Model # 27PS55 S321
Panasonic LX-1000U (using composite video)
Philips DVP5140/37 DVD Player (using component video)

Laserdisc looks squeezed (believe that's the correct term). Ran it through Photoshop and adjusted it to match the DVD and got this:

Even appears to have a little more video on the left and right side.

Kinda cool anyway as I wanted to add that disc to the collection so the rest was a bonus for me.

It's really only Hentai at the end for a few minutes. Most of the episodes are just romance plot, probably with some ecchi here and there.

I used to own that disc, I believe it was only the beginning that was squeezed, this was a typical thing back in the day to get
the credits.
one of the better non comedic Chan films, I do like it.

Happy to report that I have added the Japanese Imports "Babe" and "Babe: Pig in the City" to my shelves ....
Thanks to tangun for the latter, fun movies that I have had yet to behold until recently.
tanjun, thank you for shipping so professionally sir, earthquake proof shipping from you ! ! !

Had a pristine Japanese copy of "Halloween" (complete with obi strip and photo insert !) arrive recently and broken in three places due to a knumbskull who shipped in.......... ?
Yes, you guessed it........ ! ? ! A bubble wrap mailer ! ! ! UGH ! ! !
THE HORROR .... another fallen copy consigned needlessly to oblivion ...... DOAH !

New dealers, please look to the "how to" packaging threads to learn what to do and what not to do to ensure the silver platter goodness arriving INTACT to their new homes ! ! !

Cheers mates !

Never even gave that a thought and that makes perfect sense. Fun to keep learning things that I didn't know or even think of.

Edited to add

Well my day of learning continues. Never realized the DVD I owned was missing about 23 minutes of content. Watched a bit of the LD and it's a completely different movie when you see what was missing.

I'm in Nottingham (UK) this weekend, went out for a walk and found a record shop in Mansfield Road (didn't note the shop name) that had a few laserdiscs, of which I ended up buying
Crystal Triangle NTSC. http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/04708/ID2 ... l-Triangle
11 Harrowhouse PAL. http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/36740/119 ... arrowhouse
Got the two for a fiver, which seemed reasonable. They had three others, can't remember titles, plus a few CED discs, if anyone else is in the area. I then got five DVDs for a fiver in another shop, nothing wonderful but some anime etc. Annoyingly I didn't find anything I wanted in the book shop that was my main reason for being in the area, but the disks more than made up for it.
