I've never heard of Pepsi & Shirlie. Today I bought (well, it was FREE) a copy of Pepsi & Shirlie: All Right Now [080 3529] In the PAL standard, and made by PDO UK! 8" of muck.

That's a shame, but typical PDO, as you say. Does it play? My experience with these is that it may play, maybe even tolerably, until the really terrible bits near the edge. |

I have a few PDO discs, where probably all have the deadly mist. Most of them play actually. Some work fine in the start and the audio go full white noise around the middle. |

I had a NTSC release of Vestron Video's I Spit On Your Grave made in Germany by Sonnopress. It looked worse, played, but horriably. Thankfully it was released twice more on LaserDisc in the U.S., the only country that got ANY LD release of that movie. |

I have all of the Space: 1999 releases released in the U.S. Only vol. 1 has any defect at all. All were made by PDO U.K. |

My copy of Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms (1985) [080 166-9] plays ok. There's rot there, to be sure, but nothing awful. |

The format gets very little love eventhough it were the third competitor during the tape format war of the 80s. Video rental stores carried VHS, beta and V2000 in the beginning. By the mid 80s beta and V2000 were almost completely gone. Anyhow... Do even 8" LDs rot? Read somewhere that they really can't because of the way they're made. Crappy pressings with color speckles could exist. Kind of like DiscoVision. |

They made approx. 23 whereas there were 721 releases by all manufacturers - mostly NTSC. |

I have an 8 inch disc from Hong Kong ( pressed by Nippon Columbia btw, according to the mint marks that end with a -C ) that looks like a big CD. I mean it literally looks like a big CD and not like a typical 8 inch Laserdisc. It appears to have been made from the same material as an ordinary CD. I am just wondering whether anyone else has seen this ? It has a front just like a normal CD so it cannot be played and the back looks like a CD only bigger. |

That's an LD single. In Germany Sonopress even made some 12" LD singles. Since they don't have glue, they cannot rot in the usual way - but PDO UK would have pulled it off

So far only vol. 1 and vol. 3 have gone bad, although they were playable the last time that I tried them. It's been some time since I played any of them though. I already flagged them both. Mark |
