Just got done watching Kid from Brooklyn, The (1946) [PSE94-48] which I just received today from a Ebay transaction. It played perfectly up until the last chapter then it got totally squirrely. It was like the laser couldn't read it, it skipped around then stopped. We couldn't even finish the movie which was a drag because my wife was enjoying it. I didn't see anything on the surface of the disc. Is it a pressing error? Something else? My copy of Strange Days (1995) [0893985] also does the same thing. I've got nearly 700 LDs and only 3-4 have this issue. Any advice?

It could be a pressing error, I have a copy of Star Trek Generations that locks up on every player I've tried it on.

Honestly though, when was the last time you went through all 700 of your discs? Your player could be drifting out of alignment due to age. In my experience, a player with a slight alignment issue will have trouble at the very outside of a disc (i.e. the last chapter on the disc).

Try posting your symptoms in the technical forum. There are guys who there that have a lot more experience with players and will be able to help you troubleshoot the problem.

That's a good call. I just did recenter the laser on the motor spindle after a motor swap this weekend. This is about the 5th movie I've played since then and they had no issues so I hadn't considered this. The runtime on Kid from Brooklyn is 113m which would take the laser assembly to the outer edge of the disc. The other films may not have been as long.
