Personally I use buyee.com to navigate JYA, going to their laserdisc section and put in the japanese title with japanese characters (Doing it in english does a whole lot of nothing.) If nothing comes up, try again the next day, and the next day, etc. (That is if the title existed in the first place!)

I usually just go directly on YA. Learning the language anyway, so good practice. I have gotten better at navigating after I learned a few kanji combinations. And yes, obviously you need to search in Japanese. The challenge can be to find out what the movie or whatever is actually called in Japan. Have found a lot of interesting stuff, but unfortunately the Pokémon LD slipped past me...

Bought my self a stack of LDs which are on the way. I'll be updating in a week or two with my recent acquisitions. :)

Finding out the japanese title's probably the easiest part when I've done it. Wikipedia for basically all of the titles I wanted had the kanji somewhere right next to the english title, so a copy-and-paste job and everythings right there.

Seems like a good thing for me that no one else saw that listing then! 8-) It was listed for about two days, started on a sunday, and they closed early.
Unlike the Luna Varga listing, also a title that only gets listed once in a blue moon. There was a listing that popped up near the tail end of these acquisitions going for ¥2500, but someone right at the end of the timeout decided they wanted it as well. We got into a bidding slap fight over it for about half a hour, but ultimately I just gave up, 'cause spending over ¥4200 yen for something that was originally almost half wasn't worth it. So the hunt continues...

It'll be interesting to see what this stack is, I'll probably never guess.

Late January/early February I was in Tacoma, WA and bought a bunch of cheap titles at a bookstore up there!

Berlin Celeb.: Ode To Freedom: Symphony 9: Bernstein [072 250-1]
True Lies (1994) [8640-85]
Total Recall (1990) [ID7779IV]
Independence Day: ID4 (1996) [0411885]
Fugitive, The (1993) [21000]
Frankenstein (1931) (Uncut) [23002] (Plan to do a side-by-side comparison with the DiscoVision edition)
Absent-Minded Professor, The (1961) [28 AS]

Local record store find a few weeks ago was Invisible Ray, The (1936) [40545]. Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi in the same film? This I've gotta see.

And from our own blam1, To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) [10-009]. I've been looking for a copy of this for ages!

Since Hollywood was stupid enough to try to remake this, I figured I'd pick this up to watch it again (haven't seen it in many years) . . .

Ben-Hur: 35th Anniversary Edition

And if you wish to cause yourself pain, here's the trailer for the remake: Ben-Hur (2016)

Uh, you know that Wyler's Ben-Hur was a remake to begin with?

Doesn't really matter, since it's still a remake.

Can't answer that, I'm afraid. Haven't watched any of the specific discs, yet. My ears aren't as refined as yours either. I probably wouldn't be able to give you a proper analysis of it. ;)

I call this a decent haul.

A member on here contacted me saying she was looking to get rid of a small lot of Laserdiscs. After a three hour drive 1 way, I came away with atleast 50 movies and two players. Some are ones I have already, but dupes don't hurt sometimes. The only problem is the covers are pretty knackered, thinking of a way to flatten them back out. The players are in a non working condition and I'll work on fixing that. 4 working players wouldn't be a bad idea, even if one is a Sony.

The players are a Sony ( :problem: ) MDP-333 which seems to have a bad belt, and a Marantz LV520 which does not power on.

I would have preferred if the cat was sitting on the sony player.

After it was mentioned on here that L.A. Guns actually had some Laserdiscs released in Japan, I had to hit Yahoo Japan to see if any were available. Luckily there were. And I picked up some anime titles as well.

Cool stuff you got there, elahrairrah! The Japanese sure know how to make packaging.

Got three more titles today.

Back to the Future (1985) [PA-HD80196] MUSE Hi-Vision release.
Stuck On You! (1982) [88C59-6200] Troma movie.
Urusei Yatsura: TV Titles (1981) [KTLV-1006] Openings and endings for the TV series.
