signofzeta wrote: City on Fire is a AAA++ movie for sure. That Alto in the lobby/penthouse scene is one of the most amazing in history. The poor little car... That's the same movie right? Every HK movie having six different names confuses me sometimes. Nah when I first saw his post I thought it was about City on Fire but there is almost a whole genre of "on fire" movies. I edited my post. Prison on Fire is okay, but prison movies aren't my favorite. Gangs are way more interesting. Sometimes the gangs go to prison though.. |

Last Saturday, I received in the mail: The Sword in the Stone (CAV version), A Charlie Brown Christmas (new and sealed) and Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. All 3 came in plastic sleeves which was an unexpected bonus. On Tuesday, I got Time Bandits in the mail also. All in all, not a bad grouping. The Sword in the Stone is a member of the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection. A Charlie Brown Christmas I bought for this coming christmas. Robin Hood is a just a touch of whimsy. The Time Bandits was the first CED that I bought in 1983 so I figured that I should get the LD of it. |

I'd love to find some old Indonesian horror/fantasy films on LD. Apparently there were quite many releases on both laserdisc and betamax. One of the Indonesian movies I got on LD is quite famous. It features the late Suzanna and is called Sundelbolong. I think it is her most famous movie. I paid approximately 3 € for the disc. Yes, Betamax was quite big in Indonesia. I remember seeing some original Betamax tapes in a shop in Indonesia where I bought my LDs last time. I also have an Indonesian Karaoke LD where the singer sings in a shop next to a Betamax sign. The Prison on Fire LD I got is really nice. I checked it last night. It does not have digital audio but the analogue audio tracks are just fine. The video transfer is really good and I love the cover. The disc is entirely rot-free. I also love the Faye Wong LD I bought. My friend was very impressed with the audio quality of the analogue audio track on it when I played it to him last night. What a beautiful disc ! I think analogue audio is just fine and I don't find it in any way inferior to digital audio. |

Unfortunately the tape inside the box wasn't preserved well over time probably due to humidity. It also cost me significantly more than 3 €. |

Haha I can get a lot of Laserdiscs for less than 3 € in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Seoul or Jakarta. I already have several good contacts there but I simply lack the time and money to buy them. ( What a shame ) Many laserdiscs can be bought for quite cheap in Japan, too. Actually, I am not even 100% convinced it is Sundelbolong. I will make a screenshot of the disc and post it here a tad later once I am back at home from work. |

I would sometimes discover Laserdiscs at certain markets called 旧货市场 wich means market for old "stuff" or simply flea market. I would sometimes see a lot of Karaoke discs there. Every city has such a market. |

Most HK releases have crappy covers. Yes, that is true. A lot of HK releases have terrible covers. However I really liked this one because it is so different from many HK covers, so minimalistic. Most HK covers however give you a headache. |

Got this today: Killer, The: Special Edition #211 (1989) (Uncut) [CC1363L] The Killer, Criterion special edition Paid £2 for it at a car boot sale (US equivalent "swap meet"), disks seem to be in good condition but I haven't played it yet. Unfortunately the vendor didn't have any other LDs and barely seemed to know what they were. |

It's so kinetic it's definately something you want on LD to avoid macroblocking. Will get this Christmas but I'm sure I'll pay more than you did. |
