Well, I think a thread is needed, were some of us can make a confession: The denial or better , the dropping of the LaserDisc.
I remember well, when DVD came out, I collected both, until a certain poínt. I found myself revelling in DVDs "better" picture and I did something, I´m now 1) ashamed for ;) and 2) thinking how stupid that was: I sold some LDs to buy myself the DVD counterpart. For example: Natural Born Killers - The Boxset went away for the ugly RC1 DVD version, Saving Private Ryan (with it´s wonderful sound) - gone, Die Hard I-III, Heat, Evil Dead (CLV)...
Now I´m looking for these discs to get them back, somehow crazy as I also have the Blu-ray Disc version, but anyway...Does anyone of you also cheated the good ol LD?

I made my confession on my 'About Me' page...

"Hello all!
I stumbled upon this database quite by accident when I was looking for some info on LD players. Back in the day I was a true Laserdisc devotee but as time passed and more and more of the obscure films became available on DVD I finally gave in and sold my two remaining players and virtually all of my discs (still have a few lurking in with my LPs I will dig out soon).
Over time I had begun to regret the decision because of the titles not available on DVD or Blu ray, some of the otherwise unavailable supplemental material/commentary tracks and just simply the beauty of some of the LD jacket art.
Recently I decided to start collecting again for just these reasons. I plan to keep my collection small with just the few titles I want to actually view but more titles just for their aesthetic value to gaze at upon the shelving or even frame the jackets.
My DVDs and Blu rays will still be the heart of my collection but it feels good to get back to where home theatre really started!
Best wishes,
Brian"

I have been busy tracking down titles I sold off and have even found some pressings I did not even know existed thanks to this database!

I'm just out of room, which is why I've had to periodically downsize my collection. I regret getting rid of some of those discs now, but oh well. Nowadays, if I pick something up, something else generally has to go so my collection is continually refined to stuff I really like. Trying really hard not to double dip on things I already have on DVD. In some cases, I'm moving the DVD in favor of the LD. I've slowed down on Blu but will pick up favorites or really cool stuff like the MOC Touch of Evil collection which will allow me to move the LDs.

Never really dropped the LD format. I do buy DVDs because, how else am I to acquire new movies?

I think there was a period of time for about 2-3 years (2002-2004/5) when I didn't buy any LDs (didn't get rid of any though), but that changed when I went from using a DVL-919 for to a CLD-79, and was impressed with the better video quality. Getting a better player pretty much revitalized my interest in the format, even if I never really abandoned it.
