I've never seen more than 1 channel used on a disc, but aren't there 16 channels?

Did anything use some or even all channels?

Cheers

Aladdin (1992) [PILA-1279] is using Channels #1 and #3.

The jump in channel seems to be derived from Aladdin (1992) [PILA-1278] using Channels #1 (English) , #2 (Japanese) and #3 (extra on-screen infos). Since the CAV is already subtitled in Japanese, adding the LD-G Channel #2 was pointless.

Can anyone remember another example?

Good discussion about LD-G here: LD-G laserdiscs, worth getting a player/de-coder???

Cool info.
I have that Japanese Aladdin release but haven't watched it yet.
The LDDB entry says "This is the only known disc with more than two active LD-G track."
I wonder if that's true.

I know how to access channels 2-16 with the LD-1 via the remote, but no idea at all about switching channels with a decoder built into the player. I can throw Aladdin in and check.

OK, as outlined above, Channel 0 and 1 are on by default on all decoders. I believe they contain the same data. The LG-1 stand-alone decoder can individually select each channel, or combination of channels, or all of them together. None of the players I've come across can do that. The only LDG equipped player I have is the DVL-919(J), which has "Mode 1" (channels 0 and 1) and "Mode 2" (Channel 2). On the CAV Star Wars trilogy, they have Channel 2 subtitles only in the supplemental materials on side 6 of each film.

On Aladdin, channel 3 has "extra" stuff which outlines (in Japanese) what Genie is mimicking. (Slot Machine, Muhammad Ali, Ed Sullivan, etc). Unless there are Karaoke players that allow you to select channels other than 1 & 2, a stand-alone decoder is the only way to see the "extras".

To sum... The two "Star Wars Trilogy" CAV sets (one with book, one without) are the only instances I have seen of LDG Channel 2, and Aladdin CAV is the only instance I've seen of Channel 3.
