If I hold the laser sled in place, no pressure up or down, it appears to play fine. When I let go the sled speeds across the disc to the end. Made a video showing this:

https://youtu.be/mBwFp1RFvRI

What the video doesn't show is that it takes awhile after loading the disc for the player to access the disc and when it does it quickly shoots across the disc to the end, just like when I take my hand away in the video.

I read about a Pioneer 503 that runs that motor with +15 volts/-15 volts and if one of those fuses blows this situation occurs. Seems likely to me but so far I haven't found a blown fuse.
I'm just an enthusiast with limited knowledge willing to try things.
Any ideas?

Thanks. I'm hoping Mr Bahr or one of the Jedi Masters has seen this kind of thing and can steer me in the right direction.

Hmmm, that was strange. There was a reply but now it's gone. Oh well.

Sorry wanted to write something better.
He may be your best or only bet as I don't believe grasshopper fixes S2s?.

But careful with others and advice, these are not easy to fix and some advice will get you in a worse position than you are already in.

Not to worry. Not my first rodeo. Not looking to send it anywhere if I can help it.

I also have a LD-S2. Mine has a problem as well as the door does not open automatically without some help with a small screw driver. It closes on its own, though. I took the top off but I can't see where the problem is, probably a broken belt or one of the plastic gears. Fortunately mine still plays once I have inserted the disc. I don't know enough to help you, sorry. I also have a CLD-97 in another system as a back-up.
