one of my favorite Chuck Norris movies is Invasion U.S.A.
back in the good ol' days this movie was completely banned by swedish bureau of censorship.
it was never released on rental vhs in swedish video stores :wtf:
had to get a bootleg copy when I was a kid back in the 80's to watch this awesome Cannon flick.

I have the US rated dvd which is great.
however one scene in this movie makes me wonder if the R-rated dvd is trimmed or not?
it's the scene with Rostov, coke snorting lady and Billy Drago as the drug dealer.

Rostov smacks coke snorting lady over her head while she's snorting blow and the snorting metal tube is pushed into her nose.
I don't know if the US R-rated dvd is trimmed in this scene or not?

can anyone confirm if this scene on US R-rated dvd is uncut compared to the uncut japanese LD version?
do anyone have both discs to compare them?

Invasion U.S.A. (1985) [SF078-5139]

LDs are the cheapest they have ever been.
If you love this film so much why don't you buy both copies and collect LDs????

Except for anime titles on eBay. Like many other things, such as old video games, seems like tons of overpriced and greedy "Buy it now" listings plus with no connection to the reality of the LD market in 2017. Want a copy of Urusei Yatsura LD50 for $1600? Well, you're in luck because with eBay sellers you too can party like it's 1999, LD price wise. Been thinking about getting the Evangelion movie box, and may as well get one off of Yahoo Japan given the stuff 'bay sellers are smoking when it comes to anime - the average closed price for even that gem on YJ is like $25.

Sorry to be annoying, but the 50 LD Urusei Yatsura set would have been a steal in 1999 for $1600.
$3200 would have been a realistic price at that point, probably.
And yes, $1600 in this day and age is too much.
So why not buy it for much less from Japan?

Indeed, I have bought many gems from Japan. Especially back in the day when Suruga-ya was still existing in it's alternate dimension and there was urabanchou/recobanchou/disclegend also.

What annoys me is that eBay used to be a lot better for the JP anime discs, and the cheap shipping was icing on the cake. I got tons of deals like the MI LD24 and KOR boxes for like $40 a few years back, along with literally scores of other great titles. It's now the Buy it now syndrome where everyone prices stuff astronomically in hopes of getting a sucker, and the market for NES/SNES type games has really been ruined by the effect, in part. As you say, I will have to satisfy my wants with a bidding service or such.

It’s not a “gem”. It’s dirt common. Gundam common. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that they just made way too many copies of that thing. It reminds me of the US Schindler’s List LE in that it seemed to go on sale immediately despite looking like something that never would.

I see what you are saying but don’t let your perspective be tainted by amazing deals you had in the past. I have mint LD boxes with $400 original MSRP that I got for $7.50 during the days when Surugaya was basically giving the stuff away. That doesn’t necessarily mean that anyone selling the same thing for $60 now is a rip-off artist. I’m glad I managed to complete 0083 for $0.60 an episode but I realize that’s not realistic. Nobody can run a shop in those conditions.

They could in Japan when people were just dumping their collections at Hard Off for free (hard rubbish collection in Japan isn't free). In '13 when I went to the biggest Hard Off in the country there were about 1000 anime LDs on a tarp in the middle of the floor, unsorted, 100 yen a piece.

Just having some knowledge of what fans want, grading it and repacking it can give you a $5 profit then why not? Rent is cheap in Japan and setting up a shop isn't that hard.

Rent is cheap in Japan. That may be the least accurate thing you’ve ever written here and that’s saying something.

Ahh, but in eBay bucks it is a gem at like $200  Anyways, rarity =/= good necessarily, just look at the stupid cult of "rare" late release Hollywood blockbuster dreck on LD, and the EVA movie box is pretty over the top with extra stuff and excess so cool it's in excess supply.

What made Surugaya amazing was the fact that they went to the trouble of overseas shipping and communication, something many Japanese sellers are not big on, to sell LDs for basically nothing with no possible payback for their effort. It was like some sort of anomaly that someone forgot existed until the beancounters figured things out and pulled the plug.

Well I was also trying to comment on Carlos, Joey and now Henry.
Its amazing how he asks questions and then vanishes.

Does he even buy LDs or just asks about which ones are complete and not edited.

Henry Silva the actor is amazing, come to think of it. They don't make heavies like that anymore, and his Kurt Zagon character in one of the best Seagal titles, Above the Law, was a classic 80's bad guy.

love that art! They don't put effort like that into releases anymore.

Yeah, it actually is though. Or is your impression of Japan 30 years out of date like every other hack japanophile wannabe who's never lived there?

I rented a private apartment 20 minutes from Shinjuku 5 years ago for AUD$350 (about USD$300) a month. Commercial leases are even cheaper. Japan is shrinking and has a huge stock of affordable real estate.

By the way in Australia I pay $2000 a month for my apartment. And no I'm not in the center of a major city here.

It wasn't an anomoly, it was taking advantage of the huge supply of dumped LD collections at the time. The product would have been basically free to them. They would have profited while the gettin was good. Wages in Japan are also low so rent some basic shack in (Da)Saitama, hire someone to sort and grade the LDs for 700 yen an hour and you're in business.

Yeah, that Japanese Above the Law poster is a hand created thing of beauty. I love that they went to the extra effort to make that.
